40,000 women die annually of breast cancer in Pakistan

KARACHI, Oct 26 (APP): As many as 40,000 women die annually in
the country because of breast cancer.
This was stated by the speakers at a seminar on breast cancer
held here on Monday at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science
and Technology (FUUAST).
The moot was arranged under the auspices of the Department of
Microbiology of FUUAST in collaboration with the Pink Ribbon
Association which is running an awareness campaign against breast
cancer in the country.
The speakers were of the view that most of the death occur
because the disease is not diagnosed on time.
They opined that timely detection and precautionary measures can
help save the patient’s life.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUUAST, Prof. Dr. Sulaiman D. Muhammad,
pointed out that breast cancer was prevalent in Asia. In Pakistan
every ninth woman is said to be affected.
He said that the very purpose of this seminar was to foster
awareness.
Dr. Rufina Soomro of the Liaquat National Hospital said that with
screening the timely detection of this disease is possible.
Seema Naz Siddiqui was of the view that the girls should be
apprised of this disease.
