Sheikh Rashid determined to end railway deficit in an year


RAWALPINDI, Sep 13 (APP):Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid on Thursday said that Rs 42 billion deficit of railway would be overcome within an year.
Talking to media at the Rawalpindi Railway Station while inspecting the upgraded Rawalpindi Express and Mianwali Rail Car he said, “The task given to me by Prime Minister Imran Khan will be completed soon.”
He said that a new train “Rehman Baba” from Karachi to Peshawar and two new trains in the interior
Sindh would be started from the next month.
The minister said that CPEC project was the backbone of the economy and revolutionary changes would be
carried out in the rehabilitation of railway with the support of China.
“I promise I will keep a check on railways even if I have to disguise and conduct raids.”
While sharing his plans about the amenities that will be provided on the trains, the railway
minister apprised, “Wi-Fi along with the functional fans and lights will be provided within 100 days.”
The minister reiterated that corruption in railway would not be tolerated at any level.
A new track would be laid down from Gwadar to Quetta, he informed.
He said Pakistan Railways would contribute its share in the Prime Minister Dam Fund and Rs 1 would be collected from every passenger in that regard.
The railway minister said that he would ask the prime minister to issue an ordinance for the
recovery of railway land.
He said the Mianwali Rail Car consisted of nine passenger coaches, which had been made at Islamabad Carriage Factory in a record time. The manufacturing cost was Rs.8.5 million and all the coaches had been upgraded to facilitate passengers.
Mianwali Rail Car would start its service from September 14. It will depart from Kundian at 7:00 am for Rawalpindi and depart from Rawalpindi at 06:00 pm for Kundian..
Similarly Rawalpindi Express will started service from September 15. It will simultaneously leave Rawalpindi and Lahore at 08:00 pm.
