KARACHI, Mar 20 (APP):Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Ch Tariq Bashir Cheema here on Wednesday directed the concerned officials to hand over relevant plots and flats, in Gulzar-e-Hijri off Scheme 33, to the bonafide allottees within three months.
Chairing a meeting to review progress made with regard to Pakistan Works Department’s (PWD) and Estate Office related projects in Karachi, he said a detailed report must be presented to him without any unwarranted delay.
On the basis of a detailed briefing given to him about different PWD/Estate Office properties and their projects underway in the city,he asked Additional Estate Officer and Chief Engineer PWD to submit a progress report including proposed establishment of a new passport office in the metropolis.
Cheema said that reports about the progress must be shared with him on fortnightly basis so that prompt action be taken with due provision for required follow-up.
Registering his deep concern about alleged encroachment of federal government property in Karachi as well as other parts of Sindh, the Minister for Housing and Works said this has severely affected the revenue generation capacities of the government.
He regretted that concerned authorities have failed to protect government property and consequently it is not only that occupants and users often refuse to pay but what is paid is also insubstantial as against their actual value.
There were said to be four PWD owned petrol pumps paying only Rs Three in a city like Karachi while rent collected for many of its shops did not exceed Rs2,000.
