ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): Pakistan’s new ambassadors (designate) to Zimbabwe Asif Khan and Ukraine Maj Gen (Retd) Wajahat Ali Muftee called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr Friday and discussed matters relating to their new assignments. The President felicitated the newly appointed envoys on their new responsibilities and urged them to focus on further strengthening diplomatic, political, economic, trade and commercial ties between Pakistan and their respective host countries. The President also emphasized on the pursuance of economic diplomacy by all diplomats of Pakistan to further promote economic interests of the country.

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Justice ® Mir Hazar Khan Khoso Friday appreciated the role of media in creating awareness among the people on importance of general elections that resulted in a huge turnout on the Election Day. The Prime Minister expressed these views in a meeting with Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Arif Nizami here at the PM’s House. He expressed the confidence that a free and independent media would continue to encourage and safeguard the democratic process in the country. The Minister for Information informed the Prime Minister about various steps being undertaken by the Ministry for the welfare of working journalists.

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah met with Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso here on Friday and briefed him about the overall situation in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on the recently conducted general elections in the country and said that all political parties and groups participated in the elections which reflect their faith in the democratic process. Talking to Syed Mehdi Shah, Prime Minister Khoso said the caretaker government has taken all possible steps to provide maximum relief to the masses. During the meeting, Mehdi Shah briefed the Prime Minister on the overall situation including the financial allocation to Gilgit-Baltistan. He also briefed the Prime Minister on development projects being executed for the well-being of the people.

Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, addressing a press conference here at Foreign Office said on the use of drone strikes, the Government of Pakistan has consistently maintained that the drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives, have human rights and humanitarian implications and violate the principles of national sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law.

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Friday reiterated that Pakistan would continue extending moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmir cause. He was talking to Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed who called on him at the PM’s House. The Prime Minister reiterated that Pakistan was ready for constructive engagement through composite dialogue with India for the resolution of all outstanding issues including the core issue of Kashmir. Chaudhry Abdul Majeed informed the Prime Minister about the status of ongoing development projects in AJK and appreciated the assistance being provided by the government of Pakistan in the socio-economic development.

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif has said Pakistan wants to resolve all outstanding issues with India on the basis of equality through dialogue,Radio Pakistan reported Friday. Talking to Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal ,he said Pakistan wants to move forward the dialogue process with New Delhi for a resolution of issues. Indian High Commissioner congratulated Mian Nawaz Sharif on the victory of PML-N in elections. Mian Shahbaz Sharif was also present at the meeting.

He was talking to Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Mustafa Babur Hizlan who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House. The Turkish Ambassador congratulated the Prime Minister for successfully conducting the general elections in the country, says a press release.

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani Friday said that the visit of the Chinese Premier Mr. Li Keqiang to Pakistan was aimed at conveying strong message of solidarity and to further strengthen bilateral relations in all the fields. Speaking at the weekly news briefing at Foreign Office this afternoon, the Foreign Secretary said the visit was successful and would help strengthen economic and strategic relations between the two countries. He said Prime Minister Li Keqiang’s visit provided an opportunity to discuss entire gamut of bilateral cooperation, and regional and international issues.
