ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP): Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid Monday chaired a meeting to review progress on Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) report.
He said that all the stakeholders should be taken on board with regard to report of INDC, a term used under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Deputy Secretary of the Ministry Sajjad Haider Yaldram gave presentation and briefed the meeting on points of the INDCs report.
“As per the INDC committee report, the National Emission Inventory has been updated by Pakistan,” according to a press release issued here.
Sajjad said the Terms of Reference (ToR) as provided by the Prime Minister in 2015 for the study included establishment of the Reference Case Scenario and determine the emissions level, undertaking the projection for the future scenario based on the government’s growth programs and measures besides reviewing the current mitigation actions and programmes.
He also briefed about the key parameters that were rooted in the “Vision-2025 goals, objectives, other official policy goals, and set in Pakistan National Climate Change Policy, National Policy on Disaster Risk Reduction and National Considerations, additional energy supply from diverse sources, optimizing energy mix a key consideration, voluntary and ambitious commitments to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to a considerable level and goals for adaptation.”
He apprised the meeting about different challenges being faced during the study including data gaps, non-alignment of different sectoral growth targets, matters related to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) besdies time constraint to carry out the study.
The minister was briefed about “Approach and Methodology based on IPCC Guidelines, 6 sectors of economy – Energy, Transport, Agriculture, Industry, Forestry and Waste, Adaptation and mitigation Options based on planned and intended government interventions during the period 2016-2030.”
“This report will be sent to all stakeholders for authentication and verification by all relevant ministries and departments,” the statement added.
Among others, Bilal Anwar from the INDC team, Nasir Mehmood IG (Forest), Nisar Chattha from Ministry of Climate Change, Arif Goheer from Global Change Impact Study Centre, Dr Sarwar Waseem ul Hassan from Ministry of National Food Security and Agriculture, Shoaib Sarwar Sandhu from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Zile Huma Public Relations Officer to Ministry of Climate Change participated in the meeting.
