QUETTA, Jun 18 (APP): Rs 463.5 million has been allocated for the transport sector in the budget for the financial year 2025-26 under non-development and Rs 543 million under development.
According to official source, the transport infrastructure plays key role in the development and prosperity of the economy not only at the national but also at the provincial level.
He said that our provincial government was taking steps to upgrade transport services across the province so that the public could get better travel facilities.
Work is underway on expanded feeder routes in Quetta city under the Urban Master Transit System, he said adding that in this regard, the Transport Department had successfully launched a project called Green Bus Service in Quetta city and its suburbs.
He maintained that the present provincial government was bringing people-friendly and long-lasting projects in the transport sector.
During the current financial year, under the Green Line project, 17 more new buses including 05 pink buses for women only, have been added to the existing system and expanded to an area of 40 kilometers under the supervision of the Transport Department. Through which 30,000 to 40,000 passengers get travel facilities on a daily basis. With the further activation of this project, travel facilities are being provided to students of various institutions, more than 25 percent of general passengers and an average daily rider ship of about 9,000 passengers, he noted.
He said that during the current financial year, the Balochistan government has taken a major step towards providing public convenience and modern travel system to the common people of Balochistan and has also decided to run the “People’s Train Service” in partnership with Pakistan Railways.
This People’s Train Service will initially be run between Sariab and Kuchlak, various suburbs of Quetta, with the aim of providing quality, safe and low-cost travel facilities to the citizens, he said.
He said that under this project, the existing five old railway stations of Pakistan Railways would be upgraded, while 2 new railway stations to be constructed and the railway track could be built and upgraded on modern lines to ensure the speed and safety of the train.
In this regard, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has also issued clear instructions to Pakistan Railways and the Transport Department of Balochistan to make the project feasible, he added.
He said that in the financial year 2025-26, Rs. 463.5 million has been allocated for this sector in the non-developmental budget, while Rs. 543 million billion has been allocated for the development budget.
