Muhammad Asim Khichi, a senior civil servant belonging to the Information Group (BS-20), is presently serving as the Managing Director of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) — the country’s premier national news agency. He assumed the charge of this office on March 9, 2023.
Mr. Khichi brings with him a rich and diverse professional experience spanning over 23 years in public service, during which he has held a range of important positions across various federal organizations and government institutions.
Throughout his career, Mr. Khichi has demonstrated leadership and administrative acumen in managing strategic public relations, media affairs, and institutional operations. His notable assignments include serving as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Prime Minister’s Office, where he handled high-level media coordination and public affairs at the highest executive tier of government.
He has also rendered services at the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), contributing to policy implementation, regulatory oversight, and public outreach initiatives. Mr. Khichi has had the distinction of serving as the Director General of Radio Pakistan, where he led one of the country’s most important public broadcasting institutions.
In addition, he has served as the Principal Information Officer (PIO) — a critical role overseeing the government’s media management and information dissemination strategy — along with various senior positions in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. His broad portfolio has involved responsibilities ranging from media relations, content regulation, institutional capacity building, to promoting Pakistan’s national narrative both domestically and internationally.
As the head of APPC, Mr. Khichi is dedicated to modernizing the Corporation’s operations, upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity, and strengthening the agency’s role as a credible, impartial, and effective source of news and information for audiences in Pakistan and beyond.
