Collective efforts needed to devise minimum standards for curriculum: Baligh

ISLAMABAD, Nov 17 (APP): Minister of State for Federal Education
and Professional Training, Engr Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman Thursday
said collective efforts are needed for devising national minimum standards for curriculum.
“We all need to make an effort to improve our curriculum for the betterment of the future generations. Our ministry has been working on national minimum standards for curriculum but it is not a one man show”, Baligh said.
He was addressing a quiz programme “Fahm ul Quran” organized by Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG).
He said education is equally important for male and female according
to the teachings of Islam and it is responsibility of the government to provide free quality education to all.
Baligh said the government with the help of all political parties and
stakeholders has achieved success in eliminating the menace of terrorism to a greater extent.
He said the prudent policies of present government have helped ensure
economic stability and resolve energy crisis as load-shedding is reduced from 18 hour to four and six hours.
The minister said the government is upgrading the schools and education standards through Prime Minister Reforms Programme while the budgetary allocations for education sector has also been increased.
He said that learning has been given an utmost importance in our religion as the first word Allah Almighty taught in Quran is “Iqra” which means “To read”.
He said “Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said that it is obligatory for every man and woman to acquire education.
Baligh said “we need to learn and understand Quran in true sense because in Quran we would find success in this world and hereafter.”
Talking about the Islamic teachings in curriculum, the minister said
that it has been approved in cabinet that Nazra Quran would be taught from Grade I-V and translation of Quran would be taught from Class VI to XII, students would first be taught about the incidents in Quran and then teachings of Quran.
It is our collective responsibility to learn and understand in better
ways, students, teachers, parents, academicians, policy makers and
government officials all have to work in coherence with each other for better outcomes.
He congratulated the Principal of IMCG Amina and her team for arranging such a competition at college.
The minister congratulated the students and urged them to study with
dedication and distributed prizes among the winners of the competition.
As many as 10 teams of different girls colleges took part in the quiz
competition.
