ISLAMABAD, Jun 1 (APP): Federal Minister for Science and
Technology, Rana Tanveer Hussain Wednesday said the COMSTECH’s General Assembly session would remain remarkable.
Briefing media after the concluding session of COMSTECH
General Assembly, he said first time in the history 20 ministers of Science and Technology from Muslim countries have participated.
The meeting would help to promote cooperation amongst Muslim countries in field of Science and Technology (S&T), he added.
He said Pakistan has decided to offer scholarships to 100
students from least developed Muslim countries.
The minister said several countries who are advance in S&T had also offered to support least developed countries in the same field.
He said the Muslim countries are now realizing to increase
their budget in S&T sector as it was necessary to overcome several problems and economic development.
Pakistan has also decided to five times increase budget for
Research and Development, he said, saying 0.29 percent budget has been proposed for new fiscal year.
It would be increased to one percent till 2018, he said.
Rana Tanveer said it was a good omen that the representatives from 35 Muslim countries have participated in COMSTECH General Assembly meeting.
He said the resolutions adopted in the session would be
presented in OIC summit scheduled next year in Kyrgyzstan.
