SC further extends deadline to wrap up corruption cases against Sharif family

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP):Supreme Court has extended the deadline given to the accountability court to wrap up corruption references against members of Sharif family till November 17.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Main Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the plea to extend the date of hearing for the sixth time.
The request was made before the apex court by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik who had written a letter to the apex court for the extension in the trial of Nawaz Sharif and his two sons in Al Azizia and Flagship corruption references.
During course of proceedings, Khawaja Haris counsel for Sharif Family briefed the bench on the proceedings in the case and prayed upon the apex court to extend the trial until November 30.
However, the bench granted a five-week extension and warned of strict consequences if the cases were not concluded during the given time frame.
