A group of popular drummers from Punjab escorted the diplomat from Lok Virsa’s main entry point to the entrance of the museum in a very traditional and welcoming manner.
Holbrooke was taken around various three dimensional cultural displays
in the Heritage Museum, depicting the living cultural traditions and
lifestyles of the people of Pakistan not only from the mainstream but
also from remotest regions of Pakistan.
Holbrooke seemed impressed with the cultural dioramas in the Heritage
Museum displayed in the authentic and artistic way. He took keen
interest in the display of “Truck Art”. He termed the art of
embellishing the trucks as “Art on Wheels”. His members of entourage
were equally happy to see colourful work of art on the transport
vehicle.
They made photographs of trucks displayed outside the museum. They
were also amazed with the quality of displays inside the museum. At
times many of them exclaimed, “This is a big museum!”
Holbrooke highly lauded efforts of Lok Virsa and its management in
documenting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan in
such an artistic and professional manner.
The delegate later witnessed an artisans-at-work exhibition in the hall
of changing exhibitions within the museum. Master artisans of various
craft fields like namda/gabba, stone carving, wax painting, embroidery,
wood carving, papier mache hailing from different parts of the country
demonstrated their skills to the visiting delegation and received
appreciation from them.
A group of folk artists and musicians entertained the delegation by presenting mystic songs.
The US delegation also visited the on-going photographic exhibition
highlighting the contribution of the slain leader Mohtarma Benazir
Bhutto Shaheed which has been specially organized by Lok Virsa to mark her 57th birthday.
