MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 7 (APP): The after effects of disastrous earthquake 8 October, 2005 still reminds in our minds which swallowed thousands of lives in few seconds in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and left hundreds of thousands homeless.
The AJK President Sardar Masood Khan and AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan said in their separate messages here Friday.
He said that they faced irreparable loss due to the devastated earthquake and compensation of human lives were impossible, however they will complete the reconstruction and rehabilitation work with the spirit and our pledge that was the symbol of the great nations, he added.
He said that reconstruction work in quake hit areas of Azad Kashmir is near the final touch.
He said that rehabilitation and reconstruction work in AJK become possible due to the wide range of financial and material assistance of the successive governments of Pakistan, people of Pakistan, NGOs and world community which moved forward at the stage of crucial juncture and we are thankful to all concerned, Masood added.
The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider in his message said that devastated earthquake of October 8, 2005 was a difficult period for the people of AJK who faced it bravely.
He said that thousands of lives perished in few moments and caused great loss to the infrastructure in the liberated territory and to meet this challenge was a great challenge, AJK Premier added.
He said that four districts of Azad Kashmir including Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Bagh and Poonch got badly damaged but the grace of Almighty Allah and with the assistance and support of Pakistani nation, Pak Army, NGO and world community we became able to stand upon our own legs, Raja Farooq maintained.
He said that the people of Azad Kashmir exhibited enormous patience and accepted the challenge of devastation and put their efforts for the reconstruction of the liberated area.
AJK PM said that ERRA and SERRA played a vital role in rebuilding the infrastructure of Azad Kashmir and completed many mega projects and the speedy work is in progress of the master plan which would be completed very soon.
