LAHORE, May 22 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar here on Wednesday inaugurated newly constructed shelter home near railway station.
He also inspected the facilities and inquired the inmates
about the arrangements of Sehar and Iftar.
The Chief Minister was also given a briefing on the project of the construction
of shelter homes in Lahore.
Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said that
following the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the government
was heading towards the completion of another promise of providing
shelter to the impecunious strata.
The governance model of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is based
on the concept of “Riasat-e-Madina,” as Prime Minister Imran
Khan presented the concept of shelter homes for the needy and
homeless, he added.
Highlighting salient features, the CM said the shelter
home not only providing free of cost residential and food
facilities but their protection and treatment are also ensured
there. There is no example of setting up such a unique
institution at the government level in the past, he added.
In accordance with the vision of the Prime Minister,
construction of five shelter homes was started in the city
in November last year and with the grace of Almighty Allah,
the construction of buildings has been completed now.
More than 800 persons would be provided residential
facility besides the provision of breakfast and dinner.
During Ramzan-ul-Mubarak, Sehar and Iftar have been arranged.
More than 30,000 people stayed at the temporary shelter
homes set up at Thokar Niaz Baig, bus stand, railway station,
fruit market and Data Darbar in five months, he informed
adding that around one lakh passengers were also provided
breakfast and dinner.
The Chief Minister said that the board of governors
had been constituted to maintain and run the shelter homes.
Gohar Ijaz, a known philanthropist, has been chosen as the
head of the BoD.
He said that shelter homes would also be set up at
divisional headquarters from next fiscal year and in the
next phase, shelter homes would be established at district
level.
Shelter homes would be functional for the attendants
at six major hospitals of Lahore from next financial year.
The Chief Minister also thanked the philanthropists
extending support for the establishment of shelter homes.
Provincial Minister Social Welfare Ajmal Cheema and
convener BoD Gohar Ijaz also spoke on the occasion.
Provincial Ministers Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Aslam Iqbal,
Commissioner Lahore, vice chairman LDA, secretary information
and people from different walks of life attended the ceremony.
