Senate passes resolution to implement minimum wages decision

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (APP):The Senate on Monday unanimously passed the resolution recommending the government to take necessary steps to implement the minimum wages, announced for labour and workers in the budget 2018-19, in letter and spirit.
The resolution was moved by Senators Mushtaq Ahmad and Senator
Sirajul Haq.

Leader of the House in the Senate Shibli Faraz said that the minimum
wages was very relevant matter and said that there was a need to work on
a mechanism with research work for having effective impact on the issue.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said
that the government will fully ensure implementation of its decision of
minimum wages and suggested heavy fines on factories which were violating
the decision.
The House also passed the resolution of Senator Muhammad Javed
Abbasi, recommending the government that it should take immediate steps
for the creation of Hazara Electric Supply Corporation.
The House also passed the resolution of Senator Mian Muhammad
Attique Sheikh recommending the government to ensure the availability
of essential lifesaving medicines in the hospitals under the administrative
control of the Federal Government and should also make it mandatory for
the administration of those hospitals to display the lists of such medicines
for the information of the general public.
The Senate passed the resolution of Senator Kauda Babar and
recommended the government to take effective steps to protect and
promote the rights of local fishermen of Gwadar and to provide them
alternative sources of income under the CPEC, in case they lose their
livelihood as a result of any project.
The resolution also recommended the government to take steps
for provision of vocational and other training to the local people of
Gwadar in order to bring them up to the requirements of the modern
times and to enable them to cope with the challenges and opportunities
to be brought by the CPEC.
The resolution recommended to coordinate with the provincial
government of Balochistan to promote education in the area under
the umbrella of CPEC.
The resolution also recommended the government to take necessary
measures to ensure that local people are given preference in skilled labour
force and to ensure maximum recruitment of unskilled labour force from
amongst the locals in all projects of CPEC in the area.
The resolution recommended to take measures to preserve the
demographic balance and ownership rights of local population of
Gwadar and to make legislation, if required, to protect the same against the
expected large scale migration into Gwadar.
