Speedy work on development projects under CPEC continued: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, June 3 (APP): Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal Friday said speedy work on many development projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was underway.
Talking to a private news channel, he said a 1320 megawatt power project was
under progress at Port Qasim which would start functioning by September next
year.
Another project with the generation capacity of 1320 megawatt was being
set-up in Sahiwal at a cost of Rs 2 billion and work was underway at a fast
pace, he said.
For the first time in the history of the country, a project of coal
mining has also started under CPEC in Thar which would be used to generate
cheap electricity, he said.
The minister said that many projects of infrastructure development had
started under CPEC. He added that construction of western route has been commenced.
Ahsan Iqbal said that CPEC project was a multi phased project which
would be completed in 2030 while its first phase would be completed in 2018.
He said that various projects were underway to meet growing energy
demands in the country. The minister said that the government is taking steps to
make the country self-sufficient in the field of energy.
