ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 (APP): Glowing tributes were paid to versatile Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz in a programme organized by Lok Virsa here on Wednesday.
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Senator Aitzaz Ahsan was chief guest on the occasion, while Senator Shibli Faraz son of Ahmad Faraz was guest of honor on the occasion. Executive Director Lok Virsa Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Saadi Faraz son of Ahmed Faraz and Mujahid Barelvi was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan lauded contribution of Ahmed Faraz to Urdu literature. He said that Ahmed Faraz was alive in memories of his fans and friends as he was not a personality which could be forgotten easily.
He went to jail and suffered tortures in struggle for supremacy of the Constitution but never bowed before any dictator.
He was not a conventional poet but had wonderful sense of humour, he was life of the gatherings and spread laughters with his quick witted nature, Ahsan added.
Aitzaz Ahsan also recited famous poems of Ahmed Faraz on the occasion.
Senator Shibli Faraz also spoke on the occasion, he termed Ahmed Faraz a great father and scholar. He thanked Lok Virsa for organizing an event to pay tribute to his father legendary poet Ahmed Faraz.
Mujahid Barelvi and others also paid tributes to the legendary poet and lauded Lok Virsa for organizing the event.
Ahmed Faraz’s poetry was also recited on the occasion. The event was streamed live on Lok Virsa’s website. Singer including Arif Bazmi sung the poem of the Ahmed Faraz and got big applause from the audience on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. Fouzia Saeed welcome the participants in the event. She said that Lok Virsa has planned a special programmes in order to pay tribute to renowned literary personalities. She said that Lok Virsa live streamed the event on website.
Ahmed Faraz started his career as a scriptwriter with Radio
Pakistan. He had been an academician and was director general of the Academy of Letters.
He had been a proud recipient of Adamjee Award, Sitara-e-
Imtiaz of Government of Pakistan, Dr Iqbal Award from the Academy of Letters, Honorary Life Fellowship of the Academy of Letters, an Honorary Doctorate in Literature from the University of Karachi.
Ahmed Faraz was fully capable of the art to convert emotions of love into thought and word to create romantic poetry.
His first collection of poems, “Tanha Tanha” was published in
1958 while he was a student and became well known among poets and critics.
In 1966, his second book, “Dard Ashoob” made him well known to those who were working for a progressive socio-economic system.
