AGP inaugurates audit and accounts complex Quetta

ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): Rana Assad Amin Auditor General of Pakistan, has directed AG Balochistan to ensure prompt processing of pension and GP fund payments in addition to all other personal and official claims of the provincial government.
He expressed these views while inaugurating the Pakistan Audit and Accounts Complex in Quetta, said a statement here Wednesday.
The complex comprises the offices of Accountant General Balochistan, Director General Audit Balochistan, Director General Audit Local Councils Balochistan, AGPR Sub Office Quetta, and Federal Audit Sub Office Quetta. This was the first visit of an Auditor General to component offices of the Pakistan Audit Department and CGA, after a about 10 years.
The Auditor General reiterated his policy for zero tolerance for complaints and corruption.
He also directed to accelerate the process of conversion of pension cases to Direct Credit System.
While interacting with the officers and staff he also inquired about their personal problems and ordered the concerned authorities to resolve them on priority basis.
Meanwhile the Auditor General called on the Speaker Balochistan Assembly Raheela Hameed Durrani and congratulated her on being the first female speaker of the Balochistan provincial Assembly.
During the meeting he offered his heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in the 8th August Blast and condoled with the Speaker on the loss of lives of her colleagues and classmates belonging to the legal fraternity.
While commenting on the performance of the provincial PAC of Balochistan, he appreciated the forum for holding frequent meetings and issuing directives for recovery of government dues.
The Auditor General suggested constitution of PAC Sub committees to clear the back log of Audit reports. The Speaker agreed and appreciated the suggestion.
The AGP recommended constitution of Local Council Accounts Committees under the Local Government Act 2010 so that accountability and transparency at the district and local council level could be ensured.
He stressed that the work of Audit at the Local council level was not getting its due recognition due to absence of oversight committees.
The speaker was of the view that improvement in the system was not possible without accountability and that Audit was vital in the process of accountability.
The Auditor General also met the chairman and members of the Public accounts Committee in Balochistan.
The Chairman apprised the AGP about the issues faced by the PAC regarding lack of qualified human resource to deal with the PAC related work and non serious attitude of the Principal Accounting Officers towards the PAC meetings.
