Lahore records average AQI at 60

LAHORE, Apr 01 (APP):The city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 60, placing it within the “moderate” category, indicating that air quality was acceptable for most people, though sensitive groups may still experience mild health effects.
Despite this relatively stable AQI level, the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) remained a concern, measuring approximately 2.8 times higher than the annual guideline value recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Experts warn that prolonged exposure to elevated PM2.5 levels can pose significant health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. These microscopic particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream, potentially leading to breathing difficulties, aggravated asthma, and other long-term health complications.
Environmental analysts stress the need for sustained efforts to control pollution sources, including vehicular emissions, industrial activities, and construction dust, to ensure improved air quality and public health safety in the coming days.
