KARACHI, Apr 01 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, has said that the ongoing operation in the Kacha Area codenamed “Nijat e-Mehran” has been intensified since January this year, resulting in the killing of 32 bandits, the arrest of over 100 suspects, and the surrender of 225 criminals. He expressed confidence that the Kacha Area would be cleared of bandits by next month, enabling citizens to travel safely with their families without fear.
He made these remarks while addressing industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Wednesday. The event was attended by KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, DIG East Doctor Farrukh, SSP Korangi Fida Hussain Janori, SSP Investigation Qais Khan, SSP Ali Raza, and other prominent business leaders, senior police officials, and members of the industrial community.
Javed Alam Odho stated that Karachi has witnessed a noticeable decline in crime. According to data compared from March 2025 and March 2026, incidents of motorcycle snatching have dropped by 54%, car snatching by 48%, and mobile phone snatching by 35%. He noted that while around 16,500 mobile snatching incidents were reported in the city over the past year, the figure remains significantly lower compared to cities like London, where such incidents reportedly reach 84,000 annually. He added that murders during armed snatching have decreased by up to 88%, indicating improving law and order conditions.

He emphasized that police efforts alone are not sufficient without public cooperation and urged citizens to work closely with law enforcement agencies. Highlighting ongoing initiatives, the IGP said that the Safe City project has entered its second phase, under which 2,225 modern surveillance cameras, including facial recognition systems, are being installed across Karachi. Efforts are also underway to improve traffic management, including the installation of road signs and stricter enforcement of traffic laws, with FIRs to be registered against violators.

Odho further announced that 100 police mobile units would be repaired and reactivated, while four police stations covering the Korangi industrial area would be provided additional vehicles on a priority basis. In view of the success of a joint task force formed to address industrial concerns, he said monthly meetings would now be held at the IGP office.
