LSM growth increases by 15%; breaks 10-year record: Khusro

ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (APP): Minister for Industries Khusro Bakhtyar Friday said the country’s Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) industries growth had increased by 15 percent in the fiscal year (FY) 2020-21 which was the highest score in 10 years.

Addressing the press conference, he said due to COVID-19 outbreak, manufacturing and production sectors were badly affected around the globe and in Pakistan as well.

He said keeping in view the higher LSM growth, the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth was expected to go up to 4.5 percent as compared to previous year 3.7 percent.

Khusro said Karachi was the main hub of economy, therefore, it was decided to build the largest information technology park in the premises of Pakistan Steel Mills.

The minister said the new industrial sectors would be introduced for enhancing exports and substituting imports of the country.

Violence in New Delhi on rise as BJP leaders oppose construction of Hajj House

Violence in New Delhi on rise as BJP leaders oppose construction of Hajj HouseISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (APP): The minority Muslims in India these days are facing another episode of denial of their religious rights, as the country continues with its human rights violations in line with Hindutva policies.

The capital New Delhi has witnessed violent protests this week after the Hindu leaders of Bharatia Janta Party (BJP) strongly opposed the construction of Hajj House and also called for genocide of Muslims.

At present, New Delhi does not have a Hajj House, even though the national capital is the largest embarkation point for the pilgrimage in the country.

Nearly 15,000-20,000 Muslims from Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh leave for Makkah, Saudi Arabia from New Delhi every year.

However, in absence of a Hajj House, the pilgrims usually stay in camps before their flights.

During the recent protests, slogans were raised at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in a gathering of hundreds organised by Supreme Court lawyer and former spokesperson of the Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Ashwini Upadhyay.

Two similar incidents within a week in India’s capital have reaffirmed the secondary citizenship of Muslims in the country, with the situation worsening every day.

In a video available on social media, a Hindutva activist can be seen openly calling for the anti-Muslim attacks, suggesting that Hindus have had their share of “being defensive” and that it was time to attack.

“I have said repeatedly that Hindus should pick up shastra [arms] and shaastra [holy texts], while they still have time,” he said.

Hours before the gathering in Jantar Mantar, various Hindutva groups backed by BJP leaders, organized a ‘Mahapanchayat’, where Hindu nationalists openly called for the killing of Muslims.

From anti-Muslim rallies to lynching and pogroms, the Hindu supremacists enjoy impunity and state support from the collective society.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determinedly pursuing policies of RSS and taking all possible measures to promote Hindutva and eliminate Muslims from India.

At present, India is the only country in the world, which is sponsoring Islamophobia and Hindutva at state-level.

The Hindutva groups and affiliates like Hindu Raksha Dal brazenly call for the genocide of Muslims in New Delhi, with no condemnation from the BJP-led central government.

Over 80 Muslim women in India, who are powerful voices on Twitter, found they had been put up “for sale” online on an app called ‘Sulli Deals’.

The secularism of Mahatama Gandhi and Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru has, most unfortunately, been replaced by the dream of creating a Hindu Rashtra by subjugating and even cleansing India’s 200 million Muslims and other minorities.

The RSS is responsible of destroying Babari Masjid, slaughtering of some 2,000 Muslims in Gujarat riots under the watch of then Chief Minister Modi, and burning alive several Muslim passengers aboard the Samjhota Express train.

Addressing a press conference here, the minister said that it was after the year 1972 that such a strategy was being presented by the government under which short, medium and long-term plans were being devised by working groups with the consultation of stakeholders and their implementation would be monitored.

The minister said that from September, performance in these 14 sectors would be monitored and prime minister would be given briefing about the execution of the plans every month.

He said the exercise was aimed at accelerating growth rates from 3% to 6% in three years, keeping inflationary expectations subdued, generating employment opportunities, and reducing poverty by strengthening social safety net.

Hence, the minister said, the plans do not focus only on devising strategies but also on ensuring their implementation, which he said was unprecedented.

He said that there were growth cycles of 4 to 5 years, but the country could not sustain it due to inconsistency, hence this strategy was aimed at bringing stability and sustainability in economic policies and performances.

He said that making this comprehensive plan was the organized way of moving forwarded as is being practiced in developed countries.
He said, if there was no plan, everyone would be going in their his/her direction, hence would lead the country to nowhere, so these short, medium and long term plans have been devised with the help of all stakeholders to go on right direction.

The minister said that economic experts of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) would be helping different ministries to implement the plan, hence there was no need to have fresh inductions in the ministry.

He said Economic Reform Unit at the Ministry of Finance would be facilitating these activities.

The minister said that agriculture sector was badly neglected by the all previous governments and was not included in national main stream from last 20 years, adding that agriculture sector was growing with an average of 4 percent from 1960 and during last 20 years it was gradually on declining trend.

During last financial year, despite COVID-19 Pandemic, under the special directives of Prime Minister budgetary allocations for agriculture sector was increased, adding that measures were taken to promote mechanization of agriculture sector.

News of more blasts in Kabul baseless, Taliban

0

KABUL, Aug 27 (APP): Taliban on Friday termed the news of more blasts in Kabul city as baseless and said only two explosions had taken place outside Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday.

In a statement Taliban said the law and order situation was under control and a number of Taliban security personnel around the airport had been increased.

All possible treatment facilities to the injured of the yesterday’s blasts were being provided, it added.

The investigations were in process and Taliban leadership was reviewing the situation.

The Taliban, however, has so far not provided details about the number of deaths and injured in yesterday’s blasts but said the media would be updated in this regard soon.

More than 25 Taliban personnel, who were performing duties at the airport were among the dead, the statement further added.

The Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid in his earlier statement about more explosions in the city had said the American forces had conducted more blasts inside the airport to destroy their equipment and the local people should not be worried about the security situation in Kabul.

The US officials however blamed the Taliban for not taking sufficient security measures outside the Kabul airport.

Former Afghan vice president, who has taken refuge in Panjsher valley in a statement has termed the White House guilty of this situation and said “they will not be able to wash their hands off—they are already paying the price.”

The Taliban had strongly condemned the bombing targeting civilians at Kabul airport.
Meanwhile, according to local Afghan media, having no government in place, there was shortage of doctors and nurses in the hospitals.
