Trump slams Democrats’ push to end govt shutdown with no border wall funding

NEW YORK, Jan 01 (APP):US President Donald Trump pledged anew to build a southern wall between the United States and Mexico to stop illegal migration, saying he was ready to make a deal with the Democrats when they provided funding for border security.Trump made the comments in a December 31 interview with Fox News, as he also reiterated his assertion to build the border wall in tweets sent on the New Year’s eve.
The president said he would remain in the White House for the New Year’s Day, canceling plans to go to Mar-a-Lago because of the partial government shutdown that had furloughed thousands of federal workers.
Democrats in the House of Representatives readied a package of bills Monday that would reopen the federal government without approving funding for Trump’s wall, as the shutdown entered its second week. The House plans to vote as soon as Congress convenes Thursday, and Democrats are expected to approve the bills, but it remains unclear if Republicans will consider those bills or if Trump will sign them.
Trump tweeted late on the New Year’s eve that the Democrats would “probably submit a Bill, being cute as always, which gives everything away but gives NOTHING to Border Security, namely the Wall.”
Trump also commented in the Fox interview on Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren’s announcement on Monday that she had launched an exploratory committee for a presidential run in 2020. When asked whether she could actually win that race, Trump said: “Well, that I don’t know. You’d have to ask her psychiatrist.”
