BEIJING, Jan 18 (APP):The first batch of Pakistani students successfully completed the two-year Chinese language course at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) here on Thursday.
The batch comprising 66 students is a part of 495 students selected on merit under the Punjab Government Scholarship Programme which arrived here to study Chinese language in different institutions and universities in April 2016.
Pakistan Ambassador to China, Masood Khalid, who was the chief guest on the occasion, congratulated the graduating students for completing the Chinese language course.
Terming them a useful asset for both Pakistan and China, he expressed the confidence that those students would play a role of bridge in further promoting bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries not only in education sector but also in the context of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He expressed the confident that those students would seize employment opportunities under the CPEC framework and play a pivotal role in the development of the country.
Additional Director, University of Education Lahore, Muhammad Tahir Khan informed that all the students were selected strictly on merit from the different regions of the Punjab province for the course.
He said the chief minister Punjab was the guiding force to initiate this language course.
Tahir Khan said those students were sent in year 2016 and during their stay in China they not only focused on learning Chinese language but also actively took part in extracurricular activities.
Talking to media, Asma Raja, a student from Jhelum said, “I have learned Chinese language during my stay here which will greatly be beneficial for my future life.”
She opined that now the Chinese had become second international language after English, adding, “I am anticipating a lot of opportunities under the CPEC after returning to homeland.”
Tanzeela hailing from Pakpattan said during studying the Chinese language, she had an opportunity to observe the Chinese people and their culture.
She said it would fill communication gap and bring closer the people of two friendly nations. This course would have not only economic benefits but would promote education and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The event was attended by Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Dr Rauf Azam, principal teachers of the Punjab Government Scholarship Programme, senior officials and a large number of students.
