ISLAMABAD, Mar 09 (APP):Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, here on Monday reaffirmed the commitment of government to ensure a stable fertilizer supply amid regional challenges.
The minister chaired a high-level meeting of the Fertilizer Review Committee, which was attended by all key stakeholders from fertilizer manufacturing companies and senior officials from relevant departments.
The meeting focused on reviewing the current demand and supply situation of urea and DAP in a regionally challenging environment.
The minister emphasized that the government is closely monitoring the market, assuring that farmers will not face any undue burden.
During the discussion, it was highlighted that all fertilizer plants are operating, with an uninterrupted gas supply ensuring smooth running and continuous production.
DAP plant is also fully functional. Logistics systems are currently operating efficiently, and contingency plans have been formulated to address any future disruptions.
Rana Tanveer Hussain reassured that the government is fully prepared to implement alternative supply mechanisms to ensure fertilizers reach farmers under any circumstances, emphasizing that agricultural productivity and food security will remain protected despite external challenges.
The meeting also underlined the importance of monitoring prices at local and provincial levels to prevent artificial shortages or hoarding, ensuring that fertilizers remain accessible and affordable to farmers.
Strategic measures are being explored to strengthen domestic production and reduce reliance on imports.
The minister highlighted the need for seamless coordination between manufacturers, distributors, and provincial authorities to maintain uninterrupted supply chains.
He concluded by affirming that the government is committed to safeguarding agriculture from regional disruptions and will continue to take proactive steps to stabilize the fertilizer market, ensuring that the needs of farmers are fully met now and in the long term.
