MUZAFFARGARH, Aug 04 (APP):District Emergency Officer, Rescue 1122, Dr Hussain Mian on Sunday urged citizens to adopt preventive measures to avoid mishaps during heavy rains.
In a statement, Dr Hussain Mian said that the mishaps can be controlled through adopting preventive measures during rain. He said that during the last month of July, most of the mishaps have been reported due to urban flooding, electrocution, lighting strike and dilapidated buildings during heavy rain. He said that the monsoon season started and the citizens were urged to apply some preventive measures to avoid mishaps.
Dr Hussain urged masses to get their dilapidated buildings and roof repaired as early as possible because most of roof collapse incidents have been reported in the past which cause due to blockage of water drainage at the roof. He expressed concerned over rising incidents of electrocution, he said that everyone must kept distance from electric wires during rain.
The district emergency officer disclosed that the Rescue 1122 office have received 39,838 calls during the last month out of which only 6947 were real emergency calls while the remaining were disturbing calls which only affect performance of the department but also cause loss to masses. The emergency calls were included 787 of road accidents, 5455 of medical, 17 of fire, 102 of crime, six of drowning into water, one of building collapse, one of cylinder blast and 412 other emergencies.
He maintained that rescue officials have rescued 8733 persons during the last month out of which 4918 were given first aid, 3738 shifted to hospitals while 77 were died at the spot.
