Sheroes Cycling Fun Rally held to mark International Women’s Day

A colourful Sheroes Cycling Fun Rally was held at the Pakistan Sports Complex here on Sunday to celebrate International Women’s Day, highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment, sustainable mobility and healthy living.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 08 (APP):A colourful Sheroes Cycling Fun Rally was held at the Pakistan Sports Complex here on Sunday to celebrate International Women’s Day, highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment, sustainable mobility and healthy living.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (MoIPC) and Early Bird Riders (EBR) Sheroes Islamabad, drawing participation from a large number of women cyclists and youth.
The rally started from Raziq Gate of the Pakistan Sports Complex and witnessed enthusiastic participation from female riders who cycled to promote gender equality, environmental awareness, and an active lifestyle.
Secretary Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, who attended the event as chief guest, appreciated the initiative and said such activities were vital for encouraging women’s participation in sports and promoting a healthy society.
“Women are an integral part of our society, and their active participation in sports and recreational activities is essential for building a vibrant and progressive nation,” Wani said.
He added that the government was committed to creating more opportunities for women and youth to engage in sports and healthy activities.
“Cycling is not only a healthy activity but also an environmentally friendly mode of transport. Events like this help promote both fitness and awareness about sustainable mobility,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Zaheeruddin, the founder of Early Bird Riders Sheroes Islamabad, said the purpose of the rally was to encourage women to actively participate in sports and outdoor activities.
“International Women’s Day provides a great opportunity to highlight the role of women in society. Through this cycling rally, we want to send a strong message that women can lead the way in promoting healthy living, green mobility and positive social change,” said the 77-year-old Khawaja, who himself led the rally.
According to Khawaja, Early Bird Riders Sheroes had trained over 850 ladies in cycling. He said that cycling was not only an environmentally friendly mode of transport but also an effective way to maintain physical fitness and mental well-being.
A large of Sheroes from Islamabad and adjoining areas took part in the rally.  They were provided free bicycles and Iftari packs by IPC Ministry, adding excitement to the occasion.
Participants appreciated the initiative and said such events helped create awareness about women’s rights, environmental protection, and the importance of an active lifestyle.
The rally concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to promote gender equality, sports participation, and eco-friendly transportation in the capital city.
