ISLAMABAD, Feb 06 (APP): Pakistan made a strong start against Senegal in the Davis Cup Group II tie as both Pakistani players won their opening singles matches on the first day of the contest on Friday.
Muzammil Murtaza gave Pakistan the perfect start by defeating Senegal’s Nicolas Jadoun in a closely fought match, winning 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 to put Pakistan 1-0 ahead in the tie.
In the second singles, experienced campaigner Aqeel Khan further strengthened Pakistan’s position with a hard-earned victory over Seydina Andre. Aqeel won the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, extending Pakistan’s lead to 2-0 at the end of the opening day.
The Davis Cup tie will continue on Friday with the doubles match, where Pakistan’s pair of Muzammil Murtaza and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi are scheduled to face Senegal’s Seydina Andre and Nicolas Jadoun.
Pakistan now need just one more win to seal the Davis Cup Group II tie against Senegal.
