PESHAWAR, Oct 07 (APP):Muhammad Ahmad of Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa created another new national record in the 100m back stroke by
crossing the distance in 15.63sec in the ongoing 23rd National
Junior Swimming Championship being played here at Adil Khan Swimming Pool on
Sunday.
Director General Sports Junaid Khan was the chief guest
on this occasion who also announced Rs. 0.1 million for 12-year-old Muhammad
Ahmad Durrani for creating two new national records in 50 breaststroke and 100m
back stroke also won two gold medals for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Ali Muhammad Matta of Sindh claimed silver medal who
timed 18.19sec and Jazim Abbas, also from Sindh claimed bronze medal in the
same category with his time 1.21.38sec. Muhammad Ahmad Durrani raced up to
finish with a great distance and received thundering applauses from the sitting
spectators.
Speaking on this occasion, DG Sports Junaid Khan lauded
the efforts being put in by KP Swimming Association in holding the event in
befitting manners. He said, all resources would be utilized to provide best
available playing fields and good coaching and training to the players of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said funds have already been allocated to make the
swimming pool an all-weather for the upcoming swimmers who excelled despite
lack of practice due to cold water. Heating system and touch-pad facilities
would also be included in the rehabilitation work at the Adil Khan Swimming
Pool so the pool would be equipped even to hold international swimming events,
DG Junaid Khan added.
He also gave away medals to the position holders and
announced Rs. 10,000 for the silver medalists and Rs. 7000 as cash prize for
the bronze medalists of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National Age Group Swimming
Championship.
In the other events of the third day rpoceedings, Munib
Shafique of Sindh won gold medal in the 100m Under-16 event by clocking a new
national record with his time 1.04.66sec, followed by Waqas of KP and Danial
Afzal of Sindh.
In the Under-14 100m free style Muhammad Hassan of Punjab
got gold medal, followed by Zain Yousaf of Punjab and Taha Hashmi of Sindh. In
the 200m U-16 Zeeshan of Sindh won gold medal in 02.30.94sec, followed by Abid
Abdur Rehman of Sindh and Adeel Raza of Punjab. In the U-12 50m butterfly
Mekail of Punjab won gold medal with 32.55sec and also created new national
record, followed by Aman Siddique of Sindh and Ali of Sindh.
In the Under-14 50m breaststroke Zain Yousaf of Punjab
won gold medal with his time 33.60sec and also succeeded in creating new
national record, followed Dainail Ghulam Nabi of Punjab and Saif Baig Muhammad
of Sindh.
