The Governor highlighted that the revival of cricket in Peshawar is a highly welcome development and mentioned ongoing discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring more Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches to the city.
He extended his gratitude to the PCB for successfully organizing recent sports festivals in Peshawar, which he believes are essential for engaging the local youth.
A significant portion of the Governor’s address focused on the need for modern sports facilities.
He emphasized the urgent requirement for more international-standard cricket grounds in Peshawar to match the overwhelming passion for the sport in the region.
Governor Kundi specifically addressed the development of Peshawar’s iconic Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium (Imran Khan), saying that the province’s talented athletes both men and women, deserve world-class infrastructure.
To support this vision, he announced plans for the establishment of new sports academies to provide young players with professional training environments.
Beyond infrastructure, the Governor spoke about the social impact of these initiatives, stating that sports are a powerful tool for restoring normalcy and providing constructive outlets for the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He expressed immense satisfaction at seeing crowds, including women, return to the stadiums to enjoy live cricket matches. Moving forward, the Governor reaffirmed that his office will continue to advocate for the province’s rights in the sporting arena, ensuring that Peshawar remains a central hub for national and international athletic events.
