Rawalpindi Traffic Police intensify crackdown on one-way violations

RAWALPINDI, Apr 01 (APP):The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police have intensified their crackdown against one-way violations, issuing over 8,000 challan tickets and impounding dozens of vehicles during the past month, a CTP spokesman said on Wednesday.
Acting on the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam, a district-wide campaign was carried out against motorists violating one-way traffic rules. During the crackdown, 8,147 challan tickets were issued, while 147 vehicles were impounded over incomplete or missing documents.
CTO Farhan Aslam, in a statement, said that violation of one-way rules not only led to accidents but also contributed to traffic congestion on busy roads. He said a comprehensive survey had identified 44 one-way points and black spots, where additional traffic wardens had been deployed.
He said the increased presence of traffic personnel had helped bring the situation largely under control within days, resulting in a noticeable reduction in accidents as well as improved traffic flow.
The CTO said a zero-tolerance policy would continue to be enforced against violators, adding that stricter action would be taken in the ongoing month.
He urged citizens not to risk their own lives and those of others merely to save a few seconds, and advised motorists to follow designated routes while driving.
