LAHORE, Mar 31 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday carried out a large-scale crackdown across the city under the directives of Director General Muhammad Asim Javed,seizing adulterated products and taking strict action against violators.
During the operation,PFA teams inspected 86 food units and suppliers,discarding 1500 liters of premix,200 liters of ready-to-drink counterfeit beverages,250 liters of milk and over 100kg of chemicals.
Equipment including filling machines,gas and pressure cylinders,motors and blue drums was also confiscated.
Two units were sealed,one FIR lodged and fines of Rs.725,000 was imposed on 10 units.
Early morning checkpoints were set up to inspect 63,000 liters of milk carried by 75 supplier vehicles.
Operations were conducted in Lakhodair,Johar Town,Faisal Park,MM Alam Road,Garhi Shahu and Gulberg.
DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javed said a counterfeit cold drinks unit operating in a residential area of Lakhodair was exposed where beverages were being produced using unapproved formulas and fake labels of popular brands were affixed.
All raw and prepared stock from the unit was confiscated, and an FIR was lodged.
He added that actions were also taken against well-known restaurants and confectioneries for serious violations,including fungus-infested walls,foul environments,presence of insects and missing mandatory records such as employees’ medical and training certificates.
“No compromise will be made on food quality, regardless of the size of the business,” the DG said, adding that crackdowns against the food adulteration mafia would continue.
He said that in line with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab,businesses involved in food fraud will be completely shut down.
