PFA lodges FIR, seals dairy shop, discards 2,200kg sick poultry

LAHORE, Mar 25 (APP):Enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority, under the directions of Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid, carried out operations at Tollinton Market and Raiwind Road.
During the crackdown, 80,000kg of poultry was inspected, while 2,200kg of sick and underweight chickens were discarded. A dairy shop was sealed over substandard milk, an FIR was lodged and the accused was arrested.
Food safety teams inspected 24 suppliers and shops at Tollinton Market. Action was taken after milk samples failed laboratory tests, leading to closure of the dairy shop and registration of a case.
DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid said that veterinary specialists conducted a detailed examination of the recovered poultry and declared the sick chickens unfit for human consumption. Heavy fines were imposed and the contaminated stock was discarded.
He said the Punjab Food Authority is ensuring the quality of essential food items including milk and meat across the province. He said that food handlers must use aprons, head covers, masks and gloves during work to maintain hygiene standards. He stated that PFA teams are conducting inspections in three shifts at Tollinton Market.
He further stated that there will be zero compromise on food quality and no leniency for violators. He directed suppliers to strictly follow SOPs, warning of strict action in case of violations.
