Murree hosted 375,000 tourists, 74,196 vehicles; police ensured smooth Eid traffic flow

MURREE, Mar 24 (APP): Murree hosted a massive influx of visitors during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr, receiving 74,196 vehicles and around 375,000 tourists, while authorities said coordinated traffic and security arrangements ensured smooth flow across the hill station.
District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer, said on Tuesday that despite the surge in arrivals, no incidents of tourists being stranded or prolonged traffic congestion were reported.
He attributed the orderly situation to effective planning, strict monitoring and timely field deployment by the Murree Police and traffic personnel.
Providing details, the DPO said 17,716 vehicles entered the district on the first day of Eid and 10,038 exited, with 1,640 vehicles within the city. On the second day, 27,099 vehicles entered and 19,734 exited, with 5,429 vehicles staying in the urban area. The third day recorded the highest movement, with 29,588 vehicles entering and 26,964 exiting, while 8,659 vehicles remained within the city.
Overall, he said 15,728 vehicles remained within the Murree city during the three days, while 17,582 stayed across the district, with the remaining traffic moving towards Galiat and adjoining areas.
Dr Tanveer noted that total vehicle inflow declined by about 48.8 per cent compared to the last year, reflecting a more regulated pattern of arrivals.
He said traffic remained disciplined due to strict checking at toll plazas, continuous patrolling and effective coordination among field officers. To enforce regulations, 376 challans were issued on the second day and 506 on the third day amid increased urban pressure.
The DPO added that special anti-harassment teams and facilitation units were deployed at Mall Road and other major tourist points to assist visitors and ensure the safety of families, particularly women.
He said the overall situation remained peaceful and incident-free, crediting proactive policing and coordinated efforts for the successful management of Eid tourism in Murree.
