Minister orders timely completion of WASA projects ahead of monsoon

Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin on Thursday said that the upcoming monsoon season would pose a major challenge for WASA Sialkot, directing authorities to complete all ongoing projects within stipulated deadlines without any delay.

Chairing a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to review progress on WASA projects, he stressed that implementation must strictly follow the phased roadmap. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Gujranwala Naveed Haider Shirazi, Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali, MPA Rana Abdul Sattar, DPO Sialkot Dost Muhammad and MD WASA Faisal Shahzad along with other officials.
The minister said that in view of the monsoon season, the Punjab government was actively working to ensure effective drainage arrangements in urban areas and improve the sewerage system through modern machinery.
He directed that all WASA projects must be completed within the given timelines, adding that no delay would be tolerated. He emphasized strict adherence to the approved roadmap to ensure timely relief for citizens.
Bilal Yasin said that although the monsoon would be a major challenge, it would be effectively tackled through improved planning and modern equipment. He added that WASA had divided the city into three zones and devised a comprehensive plan to enhance the drainage system.
The minister further said that work on two new disposal stations was underway, which would improve water flow, while upgradation of major sewerage lines was also being carried out at a fast pace, with special focus on replacing the outdated system.
He also directed WASA officials to ensure prompt redress of public complaints and further activate the complaint cell to facilitate citizens in a timely manner.
