Lahore records 84 average AQI

The city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 84, placing it in the “moderate” category, which indicates that air quality remained acceptable for the general population, though it may pose a slight risk for sensitive groups.

LAHORE, Mar 18 (APP):The city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 84, placing it in the “moderate” category, which indicates that air quality remained acceptable for the general population, though it may pose a slight risk for sensitive groups. Despite falling within this range, pollution levels were still notably elevated, particularly in terms of fine particulate matter.
Data showed that the concentration of PM2.5 — the most harmful airborne particles due to their ability to penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream — was measured at 5.3 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization. This significant exceedance highlights a persistent air quality concern, suggesting that long-term exposure could have adverse health effects, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
Experts advise that while the AQI classification may not indicate severe pollution, the elevated PM2.5 levels underscore the need for precautionary measures, including limiting prolonged outdoor activities and adopting policies aimed at reducing emissions and improving overall air quality.
