DC reviews healthcare facilities in Shahpur jails

SARGODHA, Apr 03 (APP):Deputy Commissioner(DC) Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhary on Friday chaired a meeting of the Prison Health Council to review the provision of medical facilities to inmates in Sargodha and Shahpur jails.
Officials briefed the meeting that around 300 outpatients were treated daily in jail hospitals,while nearly 30 inmates were admitted for indoor medical care.
A monthly health profile of each prisoner was also being maintained.
The meeting was attended by the CEO Health,Medical Superintendents of DHQ Teaching Hospital and MSTHQ 90 South and Shahpur,superintendents of both jails and other concerned officers.
Expressing concern over gaps in healthcare delivery,DC directed authorities to ensure timely and quality medical treatment for prisoners,warning that negligence would not be tolerated.
He ordered the immediate filling of vacant posts of doctors and paramedical staff and stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines in jail hospitals.
Chaudhary also called for improved hygiene and sanitation conditions, particularly in food preparation areas and directed officials to address issues faced by healthcare staff on a priority basis.
He further emphasized the safe disposal of medical waste in accordance with prescribed procedures and instructed that a regular schedule of weekly visits by specialist consultants be devised to improve healthcare services.
The DC also directed the CO Health to conduct regular inspections of jail facilities along with his team to monitor the provision of medical care.
