SARGODHA, Mar 12 (APP):A meeting chaired by Commissioner Sargodha Division Hafiz Shaukat Ali reviewed measures to control encroachments, manage traffic flow and monitor ongoing development projects in view of the increasing rush in markets ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Commissioner directed the Chief Officer Municipal Corporation and Assistant Commissioners to ensure strict implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against encroachments in markets. He clarified that no encroachments, whether permanent or temporary, would be tolerated and action would be taken against violators.
He also ordered special attention to improving traffic flow during the Eid rush and directed that roads in markets remain open at all times so that shoppers do not face inconvenience.
The Commissioner ordered strict action against double parking and directed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy in this regard, adding that heavy fines should be imposed on violators. He urged traders to ensure single-line parking in front of their shops and also inform other shopkeepers about the policy.
He further directed that lifters and traffic police remain present in City Road, Katchari Bazaar, Amin Bazaar and other major markets to immediately prevent double parking.
During the meeting, traders shared their concerns regarding ongoing development works in City Road and Kachhari Bazaar under the Punjab government’s City Development Programme. The Commissioner directed the concerned officers to resolve traders’ issues immediately and ensure their consultation in development works.
The Chief Officer Municipal Corporation, while briefing the meeting, said a designated area had been allocated in Block No. 19 for parking motorcycles of traders and shop workers, while specific parking spaces were also being planned in other markets. He added that Urdu Bazaar was being converted into a pedestrian market.
Managing Director WASA briefed the meeting on a major project underway in Sargodha city under the Punjab Development Programme with special funds provided by the Chief Minister of Punjab. The Commissioner directed that all necessary steps be completed before the monsoon and a formal preparedness plan be presented.
He also directed officials of FESCO to accelerate ongoing electricity works in City Road and Kachhari Bazaar and ensure completion of the project by May 31 so that other development works could proceed on time.
The meeting was attended by the MD WASA, Director Development, Assistant Commissioner Sargodha, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation, XEN Highway and XEN FESCO Construction.
