Beautification drive for Iqbal Manzil, allied market kicks off

SIALKOT, Mar 26 (APP): The Punjab government has launched a Rs285 million project to beautify Iqbal Manzil and its allied market in Sialkot under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali.
According to an official press release issued on Thursday, the project initiated under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, covers a 1.2-kilometer stretch from Chowk Islamabad to Adda Shahbaz Khan, with Iqbal Manzil, the ancestral home of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, as its focal point.
Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Zubair Wattoo said the plan includes installation of uniform neon signboards, renovation and illumination of buildings, construction of a grand entrance gate, and decorative arches at key points. A ducting system will replace overhead wiring, while pedestrian pathways will be upgraded with modern tiles.
He added that statues and installations inspired by Iqbal’s poetry, along with hanging roofs in selected areas, will enhance the area’s appeal.
The district administration said the initiative aims to boost tourism and business activity, adding that work was being closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
