LAHORE, Mar 27 (APP):The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has facilitated the arrest of an organised robbery gang involved in multiple street crime incidents across Lahore by using advanced AI-powered surveillance technology, achieving a significant 74 per cent reduction in crime rate in the city.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, the accused were wanted by police for their involvement in snatching mobile phones and cash from citizens in various localities. The gang mainly operated along Main Canal Road and adjoining areas, using 125cc motorcycles to carry out robberies. Cases had been registered against the suspects in several police stations, including Kot Lakhpat, Defence-A, Harbanspura, Garden Town, and Shadman.
The spokesperson said that upon receiving information, a Virtual Patrolling Officer at PSCA tracked the suspects through Safe City cameras. With the help of advanced artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology, the suspects were identified and their movement routes were mapped effectively. Acting on intelligence provided by PSCA, police conducted a successful operation and apprehended the culprits.
Highlighting the impact of modern technology, the spokesperson said that effective implementation of AI-based systems had contributed to a notable decline of up to 74 percent in crime in Lahore. Citizens were urged to report any suspicious activity through the Emergency Helpline-15 or the Safe City Public Safety App for prompt action.
