2,171 suspects held in 9,784 operations across province in two weeks

Punjab Police conducted 9,784 intelligence-based and combing operations across the province, including Lahore, during the past two weeks, taking 2,171 suspected and criminal individuals into custody in view of the prevailing western border situation.

LAHORE, Mar 17 (APP): Punjab Police conducted 9,784 intelligence-based and combing operations across the province, including Lahore, during the past two weeks, taking 2,171 suspected and criminal individuals into custody in view of the prevailing western border situation.
A spokesperson said on Tuesday that 650 intelligence-based operations were carried out during which 12,711 individuals were questioned and 576 suspects were detained. During these operations, police recovered more than 2.5 kilograms of explosive material, 12 detonators, four Kalashnikovs and 37 feet of safety fuse wire from anti-state and criminal elements.
The spokesperson added that 9,134 combing operations were also conducted across the province, during which over 309,000 individuals were checked and 1,595 suspects and criminals were taken into custody. Police also recovered five Kalashnikovs, 23 rifles, 187 pistols, nine guns and a large quantity of ammunition from the possession of criminals.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem said that intelligence-based and combing operations would continue without interruption to bring anti-state and criminal elements to justice.
He directed that the door-knocking process be further strengthened to effectively counter terrorists and miscreants, adding that all available resources were being utilised to maintain law and order and ensure protection of life and property of the citizens.
