PFA unearths fake milk production unit

SARGODHA, Aug 15 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday unearthed a counterfeit milk production unit operating out of a house in Bhalwal,Sargodha,in a major crackdown on food adulteration.
According to a PFA spokesperson,the raid led to the seizure of a significant quantity of ingredients used to manufacture the synthetic milk.
During the operation,officials discovered and confiscated large amounts of dry powder,vegetable oil and an unidentified chemical.
More than one maund (approximately 40 kilograms) of the fabricated milk found at the scene was immediately discarded by the food authority’s team.
In addition to shutting down the illegal unit, the PFA initiated legal proceedings against the individuals involved.
An FIR was registered with the local police and a motorcycle used for supplying the counterfeit milk was impounded.
The spokesperson for the PFA stated that strict action was being taken against the accused, particularly as they were reportedly repeat offenders in food adulteration.
The PFA’s spokesman encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected food adulteration by contacting their helpline at 1223.

Chehlum processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) under way under tight security

SARGODHA, Aug 15 (APP):Chehlum mourning processions and Majalis of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) was on its way under tight security arrangements in the district,here on Friday.
Police after following the instructions of the District Police officer (DPO) Muhammad Suhaib Ashraf,made fool proof security net to meet any untoward situation during the Chehlum duration.
Police spokesman informed that 13 processions were underway across the district including two of category A,two of category B and nine of category C whereas police was providing safe security shed to all .
The spokesman said that central procession has been started from Block no.14 and will be ended at Imam Bargah Dar-ul- Uloom Muhammadabad after passing through several roots.
The spokesman said that over 1000 police men were alert for the provision of tight security to mourners.
DPO himself was monitoring the security arrangements by remaining in the field.

Man arrested over display of firearms on social media

MUZAFFARGARH, Aug 15 (APP):Police on Friday arrested a suspect for displaying firearms in a video on social media.
According to the spokesperson,the suspect,identified as Muhammad Amjad,had displayed the weapon on the social media platform TikTok.
Police recovered one Kalashnikov rifle along with live rounds from the possession.
A case has been registered against the suspect.

CM KP dispatches helicopters for rescue of people in flood hit Buner, Bajaur

PESHAWAR, Aug 15 (APP):On the instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, provincial government’s two helicopters was immediately dispatched to Buner and Bajaur districts to rescue individuals stranded on rooftops after flash floods.
The KP Govt spokesperson in a statement here Friday said he provincial government’s larger helicopter, MI-17, has been sent to Bajaur and small helicopter to Buner district for rescue operations.
The provincial government only has these two helicopters currently available for rescue activities, according to the spokesperson.
In light of the current emergency situation, the Chief Minister has directed that all available resources be utilized to save lives.
The Chief Minister is in constant contact with all relevant officials, divisional administration, and district administration given the current emergency, the spokesperson added..
He said Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is personally monitoring the rains and floods situation across the province.
He said the Chief Minister is receiving regular updates from the administration of the affected districts and is also in contact with the Commissioner of Malakand and the Deputy Commissioner of Buner to ensure the safe evacuation of people trapped in the floodwaters in Buner.

Flash floods kill 26 in Batagram, Bajaur districts

PESHAWAR, Aug 15 (APP):At least 26 people were perished during flash flood caused by clouds bursts related incidents during last 48 hours in Batagram and Bajaur districts.
In Batagram district, at least 10 people died and 16 others got missing after torrential rains and flash floods caused by clouds bursts in different areas made hovac to lives and properties, says police, district administration and rescue 1122.
Assistant Commissioner Battagram, Saleem Khan told media here Friday that the number of people who lost their lives in a flash flood in Neel Band area of Battagram has risen to 10, while search operation continues for 18 others were still missing.
He said five houses were destroyed last night due to a lightning strike in Neel Band village, which is located on the border of Battagram and Mansehra districts, resulting in a flash flood situation.
So far, he said 10 bodies have been recovered from the stream at Shimlai Mandrawali location, while rescue teams from Rescue 1122, police, and local volunteers are engaged in ongoing relief and search operations.
In Bajaur tribal district, at least 16 people died and seven others were missing during flash floods and caused by clouds burst in Bajaur district.
District Emergency Officer Amjad Khan who is overseeing the rescue operation confirmed the death toll to media.
He said the rescue operation in the affected areas were launched after Rescue 1122 control room received reports of several people were washed away and injured due to a flash flood caused by cloudburst at Jabrari in Tehsil Salarzai.
Soon upon receiving the information, he said disaster response, medical, and diving teams were immediately dispatched to the affected areas.
He said so far 16 bodies were recovered and three injured rescued from the debris and floodwaters.
The injured were provided immediate medical aid in ambulance and later transferred to the hospital.
He said search operation for seven missing people are in progress, and rescue teams are continuously working to locate them.

Rawal Dam spillways to open today as water level rises after rains

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP):The district administration has announced that the dam’s spillways will be opened today at 1 pm to regulate the water flow, following continuous rainfall in recent days and the water level at Rawal Dam has risen significantly, reaching 1,751.30 feet.
According to officials, the Assistant Commissioner of Nilore will personally supervise the process of opening the spillways. The decision has been taken as part of routine safety measures to manage the increased water level and ensure smooth discharge.
Rescue teams, security personnel, and medical units have been deployed at various locations around the dam to respond promptly to any emergency situation.
The district administration stated that all necessary preparations have been completed well in advance, including coordination with relevant departments and placement of resources at key points.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary activities near the dam, particularly during the spillway operation, to ensure their safety. The administration also urged the public to follow safety instructions and cooperate with teams on duty.
The district administration reaffirmed its readiness to handle any situation arising from the increased water flow, emphasizing that preventive steps and on-ground arrangements have already been put in place.
Opening the spillways will help maintain the dam’s capacity and prevent overflow, ensuring water safety for both the dam structure and surrounding areas. The public has been requested to remain vigilant and avoid visiting the dam’s vicinity during the operation.

Foolproof security being ensured during Chehlum: CPO

MULTAN, Aug 15 (APP):City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar on Friday said that foolproof security arrangements were being ensured during Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) across the district.
According to a spokesperson, CPO said in a statement that keeping in view the sensitivity, best security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident in the city.
He said that a total of nine traditional mourning processions would be taken out in the city out of which three have been declared in category A and six in category B.
A total of 1237 police officials have been deployed in the city while eight vigilance teams have also been made for strict monitoring.
He said that various reserves teams have also been formed for quick response in any emergency like situation.
The CPO maintained that city traffic police have also made a comprehensive plan for alternative routes to facilitate masses and to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.
He urged masses to cooperate with police in maintaining law and order and inform police in case of any suspicious person or activity around them.

Youth activist from KP honoured with Pride of Pakistan Award

PESHAWAR, Aug 15 (APP):Hassan Nisar, founder and chief executive officer of Metrix Pakistan, has been conferred the Pride of Pakistan Award by Government of Pakistan and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in recognition of his contributions to youth empowerment, technology education and combating misinformation.
The award was presented during events marking the country’s 78th Independence Day.
Pride of Pakistan award is regarded as one of the country’s highest civilian honours for individuals who have rendered notable services in their respective fields.
Hailing from Haripur in the Hazara region, Hassan Nisar established Metrix Pakistan in 2022 with the stated aim of improving access to technology education in underserved areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Since its inception, the organisation has provided training, internships and skill development opportunities to thousands of young people, with an emphasis on practical learning and employability.
Through Metrix Pakistan more than 200,000 individuals have joined the summits of Metrix Pakistan, with the majority from underprivileged areas where they learned and equipped themselves with new technology.
He has been previously awarded by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for his work regarding misinformation and in education in underprivileged areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
His work has not been limited to education. During heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, he became known for efforts in countering misinformation on digital platforms.
Over the past eight years, he has worked with various public sector institutions to develop strategies aimed at reducing the spread of false information and strengthening the state’s digital communication capacity.
In addition to his role in technology and media literacy, Hassan Nisar has undertaken initiatives to promote tourism in the province.
 Among these is the identification and promotion of Hazara Waterfalls, which has drawn interest from domestic visitors. His civic work also extends to environmental awareness and community outreach programmes in remote regions.
Through his organisation, he has also organised free medical camps in underprivileged areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, providing healthcare access to communities with limited facilities.
In earlier recognition of civic and community engagement, he received the Pakistan Super League’s ‘Hamaray Heroes Award’ in 2024, High Achievers Award, Pride of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fakhre Hazara and many more.
Accepting the Pride of Pakistan Award, Hassan Nisar described it as a recognition of the resilience of Pakistan’s youth and expressed his intention to continue working towards expanding digital education and strengthening information integrity in the country.

NDMA central body for disaster preparedness: Senate told

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP):Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Friday informed the Senate that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) serves as the central body for coordinating disaster preparedness and response across the country.
Responding to questions during the Upper House’s question hour, he said the NDMA was established under the National Disaster Management Act, 2010, with provincial disaster management authorities operating at their respective provincial levels.
The minister said the NDMA’s primary responsibilities include coordination with federal and international institutions to forecast potential disasters such as floods and earthquakes, and to ensure timely warnings to mitigate loss of life and property.
“At the provincial level, the implementation of disaster preparedness measures lies with the respective authorities, while the NDMA provides operational support, guidance, and coordination from the federal level,” he explained.
Referring to a recent tragic incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that claimed precious lives, Dr. Tariq Fazal said it was the responsibility of all provinces to ensure preventive measures and fulfil their obligations in disaster risk management.
Regarding commitments made by the federal government, he said most had already been fulfilled, and any pending matters identified by senators would be addressed promptly.
