Young woman from AJK earns pride of Pakistan award

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 15 (APP):Syeda Muhadsa Naqvi, a distinguished social activist, advocate, and founder of the non-profit organization Leading Visionaries, has been conferred with the prestigious Pride of Pakistan Award by the Government of Pakistan.
The honor was bestowed during the Maarq-e-Haq and Independence Day celebrations at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad, in the esteemed presence of the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. This year’s other Pride of Pakistan recipients included Ali Fareed Khawaja, Nadia Patel, Dr. Fazal Wahid, Shahida Abassi, and Sabra Gul, along with several other luminaries recognized for their remarkable contributions to the nation.
Since founding Leading Visionaries in 2020 to promote youth leadership and awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Muhadsa has emerged as a powerful voice for empowerment and social change. She represented Pakistan in the 2022 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD) in the United States, received a Gold Medal from the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir in 2023 for her volunteer work in National Youth Empowerment, was named among Pakistan’s 100 Young Influencers in 2024, and in 2025 was selected from over 183 countries for the UPG Sustainability Leadership Program, where she topped her cohort and earned a fully funded return trip to Hurricane Island, USA. An LLB Gold Medalist from the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), she has consistently demonstrated academic excellence alongside her dedication to youth development, leadership training, gender equality, and raising Pakistan’s profile on the global stage. Speaking on the occasion, Muhadsa Naqvi expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) for the honor and dedicated the award to all those who have ever supported her, no matter how briefly, in her life. She offered a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, acknowledging her prayers and guidance as the greatest strength behind her journey.

High Commissioner of Bangladesh participated in Independence Day event at RMU

RAWALPINDI, Aug 15 (APP): The High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal Hussain has expressed his good wishes for Pakistan and reiterated the continued mutual cooperation between both the brotherly countries. He said that people of the two countries have strong relations which would be further strengthened in the days to come.
The High Commissioner remarked this while talking at the flag hoisting ceremony, organized by Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day here on Friday.
The High Commissioner while recalling the separation in 1971, said that despite the separation, the bond of affection between the two nations remains strong.
“We may have parted ways, but we are still working together, and our relations are strengthening”, he said.
The High Commissioner further said that the bilateral cooperation in various fields including in education and trade would be further enhanced.
He expressed his delight at visiting RMU and highlighted Bangladesh’s heartfelt love for Pakistan.
During the visit, he participated in the flag-hoisting ceremony, toured various departments of the university and also planted a sapling.
Earlier upon his arrival at the University, the Bangladeshi High Commissioner was accorded warm reception by Dr. Muhammad Umar, VC RMU along with the University’s senior officials.
The vice chancellor while welcoming the visiting dignitary, described the visit as ‘historic development’ since it was the first ever visit by any Bangladeshi Ambassador to RMU.
“The visit highlights the strengthening diplomatic and educational ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh”, said Dr. Umar.
Special prayers on the occasion were offered for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Governor KP calls on Chairman Senate, development, unity, welfare issues discussed

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, met with Chairman Senate, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, at the Parliament House on Friday and discussed wide range of issues, including political, economic and social stability in the country, as well as challenges faced by the people of KP and practical measures to address them.

Chairman Senate underscored that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa holds a pivotal place in Pakistan due to its strategic geographical location, historic role, and the unparalleled sacrifices of its people for the nation’s security, stability, and progress.

He emphasized that the people of the province have, from the creation of Pakistan to the present day, made invaluable contributions towards peace, unity, and stability contributions that will be remembered in golden words in the annals of national history.

Governor Kundi provided a detailed briefing on the province’s developmental priorities, pressing challenges, and the specific issues of the merged districts of the former FATA region.

He apprised the Chairman Senate of ongoing strategies to strengthen engagement with tribal elders and to implement welfare initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable development and prosperity for the people of the province.

Chairman Senate reiterated his firm commitment that the well-being of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is integral to Pakistan’s sustainable future, assuring that all possible cooperation will continue at the federal level to support the province.

The meeting was also attended by newly elected Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood. Both the Governor KP and Senator Talha Mahmood prayed for the departed soul of cousin of Chairman Senate and former federal minister Syed Tanveer-ul-Hassan Gilani. They eulogized social and political services of late Syed Tanveer ul Hassan.

Punjab Ombudsman to launch Awami Khidmat program from Multan next week

LAHORE, Aug 15 (APP):The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab will launch the Awami Khidmat Program from its Regional Office in Multan next week,with the objective of enhancing public awareness, facilitating citizens and ensuring swift action against maladministration in government departments.
The initiative specifically targets underdeveloped and remote areas of South Punjab, enabling residents to register complaints and seek guidance without the need to travel long distances.
For the purpose,a specially equipped mobile vehicle,fitted with modern digital facilities will visit designated locations to register complaints on the spot and provide necessary assistance to complainants.
According to the Ombudsman’s Office,the program will ensure transparent and timely resolution of public grievances,extending the reach of the complaints redressal mechanism to far-flung areas of the province.

43 people die, 30 houses damaged  in floods, rains incidents in KP: PDMA

PESHAWAR, Aug 15 (APP):At least 43 people have lost their lives and 14 others injured in different incidents caused by rains and flash floods over the last 24 hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Provincial Disasters Management Authority report, among the deceased are 33 men, two women, and eight children.
The injured include 11 men, two women, and one child.
DMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issues preliminary report on loss of life and property due to rains and flash floods in the last 24 hours
PDMA in its preliminary report said that a total of 30 houses have been damaged including 25 partially and five completely destroyed.
According to the PDMA report, the current spell of heavy rain is expected to continue intermittently until August 21 and urged people on rivers banks side to adopt all precautionary measures.

Six people rescued safely from River Swat at Barikot

SWAT, Aug 15 (APP):As many as six people were safely rescued from flash floods in River Swat at Barikot area here on Friday.
District Emergency Officer, Rafiullah Marwat told reporters that in Barikot tehsil near the Ariana hotel at Dadhara area, six people stranded in beds of River Swat were swept by a sudden flash floods.
Upon receiving information about the incident, he said our water rescue team promptly reached the location.
Despite the strong and rapid current, he said the rescue personnel demonstrated professional expertise and rescued all the six drowning people.
He advised citizens to avoid going near rivers beds and seasonal streams, especially during the rainy season, to ensure their safety and avoid human losses.

PM strongly condemns terrorist attacks on police stations, check posts in KP

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday strongly condemned terrorist attacks on police stations and check posts in various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The prime minister praised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and Counter-Terrorism Department for successful operation in which three terrorists were killed.

The prime minister payed homage to the police personnel martyred in the terrorism incidents and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs’ souls in Jannah and offered his heartfelt condolences to their families.

PM Shehbaz also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and directed to provide all possible medical assistance to them.

“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have played the role of a frontline force in the fight against terrorism,” he said adding that the government was determined to completely uproot all forms of terrorism from the country.

Hazrat Imam Hussain (a.s.) sacrificed everything in the path to Allah for the sake of truth and justice, he said adding that Karbala is an eternal story of patience, loyalty and truth.
Tessori said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (a.s.)’s patience is a beacon of light for humanity throughout the world.
He said that Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (a.s.) teaches a lesson of peace, brotherhood and unity.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to act on the message of Hazrat Imam Hussain (a.s.) and stand for the truth.

PHA organizes ‘Fireworks, musical night’ on eve of Independence Day

SARGODHA, Aug 15 (APP):On the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day,the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Sargodha organized a fireworks and musical night at the main office lawn,celebrating the spirit of freedom with vibrant displays of culture and patriotism.
According to media consultant PHA Shafqat Awan, the event was marked by breathtaking fireworks,filling the night sky with a dazzling array of colors,much to the delight of the attendees.
He said the authority also arranged musical night as well in which the local singers sung patriotic songs which created enthusiasm among the audience.
The lawn was decorated with beautiful floral arrangements and festoons, creating a lively atmosphere and large number of families visited the ceremony,he said.
The Director General(DG)PHA Muhammad Arshad Chaudhary said that the event not only entertained but also served as a reminder of the sacrifices made for the country’s independence.
‘’The Parks and Horticulture Authority Sargodha takes pride in bringing the community together on such significant occasions,we would continue to create spaces that not only beautify our city but also promote social unity and cultural pride,’’ he added.

ANF recovers over 63 kg of drugs worth Rs 24.6 million in 10 operations

RAWALPINDI, Aug 15 (APP):The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), conducting 10 operations across the country, recovered as many as 63 kilograms of drugs worth more than Rs 24.6 million and arrested 10 suspects, including a woman, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman on Friday.
He informed that 1 kg of heroin was recovered from a motorcyclist at the Motorway Toll Plaza in Islamabad.
As much as 250 grams of ice and 6 grams of cocaine were recovered from a motorcyclist in Rawalakot, Poonch District.
1200 grams of hashish and 5 grams of cocaine were recovered from a motorcyclist near Golra Mor, Islamabad.
Similarly,1200 grams of hashish were recovered from 2 motorcyclists in Mandra, Rawalpindi.
The arrested suspects confessed to selling drugs to students of educational institutions.
During other operations,192 grams of ice were recovered from a woman’s luggage going to Bahrain at Jinnah International Airport.
378 grams of ice-filled capsules were recovered from the stomach of a passenger going to Bahrain at Allama Iqbal International Airport.
As many as 22 grams of heroin were recovered from a parcel sent to the UK at the cargo shed of Allama Iqbal International Airport.
In another operation,5.550 kg of ice absorbed into clothes was recovered from a parcel sent to the UK from a courier office in Sohawa.
45.200 kg of opium was recovered from a vehicle in Khanozai Bazar, Tehsil Pishin and the accused was arrested.
As much as 9 kg of heroin was recovered from a truck near Deepalpur Road, Kasur and 2 accused were arrested.
Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects under the Narcotics Control Act, and further investigations are underway.
