President says CPEC, a project of economic turnaround, urges nation’s support

ISLAMABAD, April 27 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on
Wednesday said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would usher in an era of development of the country and urged upon the nation to fully support the project.

Addressing the seventh convocation of Virtual University
here, he said CPEC would make Pakistan a major hub of economic activity in the region.

President Mamnoon Hussain said several projects of power
generation and motorways would be completed under the umbrella of CPEC, adding that rest of the country would be linked up with the Corridor.

Government proactively pursuing development agenda: PM

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said the government was proactively pursuing the agenda of development to improving the living standard of common man.

The Prime Minister expressed these views in a meeting with
members of National Assembly including Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, Nadeem Abbas Rabaira and Malik Ibrar Ahmad who called on him separately here at the PM House.

The Prime Minister said the MNAs should leave no stone
unturned in fulfilling their commitments to the people who had reposed their trust and confidence in electing them.

Sartaj Aziz, Chinese FM satisfied with CPEC progress

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Adviser to Prime Minister on
Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and his Chinese counterpart Wang
Yi met in Beijing on Wednesday and expressed satisfaction over the pace of projects being implemented under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Sartaj Aziz is visiting China to attend the 5th Foreign
Ministers Meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), a Foreign Office statement said issued here Wednesday.

During the meeting, Sartaj Aziz and Wang Yi reviewed the Pakistan China bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments.

ECP should take action against allegations: Ayaz Sadiq

LAHORE, April 27 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Sardar
Ayaz Sadiq has said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should take action against those people who hurl baseless allegations.

Talking to the media here at Garhi Shahu on Wednesday,
he said allegations of changing voter’s lists of my constituency were baseless and added that the ECP fulfilling its  responsibility should take action against them.

To a question, Ayaz said counsel of Abdul Aleem Khan
was trying to escape from the ECP but he would not provide any opportunity to flee.

PM to perform ground breaking of Havelian Thakot on Thursday

ISLAMABAD, April 27 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will perform the ground breaking of Havelian Thakot section of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Mansehra on April 28.

The 120 kilometer long section will be completed in 42 months at a cost of Rs 133.98 billion, the PM Office said on Wednesday.

China’s Exim Bank will provide 90 percent funding for the project while the Government of Pakistan will share 10 percent of the cost.

Senate panel takes notice of misuse of authority by ED Lok Virsa

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Senate Standing Committee on
Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage on Wednesday took notice of reported misuse of authority by Executive Director of Lok Virsa and decided to hold an exclusive meeting on its affairs.

The committee meeting chaired by Senator Kamil Ali Agha was informed through an application moved by some suspended employees of the Lok Virsa that the government rules and regulations were being violated in the organization.

The committee was informed that after taking charge the
incumbent Executive Director of Lok Virsa Fauzia Saeed has withdrawn most of the benefits of the employees.The committee was further informed that even pensions of the retired employees have been stopped.

ISLAMABAD, April 27 (APP): Minister for Defence and Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said while Israel continues killing Palestinians with impunity and keeps expanding its settlement in the occupied land, the Palestinians continue to suffer not only in the West Bank and Gaza but also as refugees in different parts of the
world.

Similarly the people of Indian held Kashmir (IHK) are also
being subjected to worst atrocities in their quest for self
determination promised to them by the UN Security Council, he said while speaking at International Security Conference on Terrorism.

He said armed forces of Pakistan have singularly achieved
within less than two years what allied forces failed to achieve in more than thirteen years in Afghanistan, said a press release received here.

Committee seeks blocked CNICs details

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Parliamentary Sub Committee on
Electoral Reforms Wednesday sought details of blocked computerized national identity cards (CNICs) of each province from National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The committee met here under the chairmanship of Aftab Sherpao. Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Aftab Ahmad Sherpao said the committee had directed NADRA officials to submit complete details of blocked CNICs with reasons.

The NADRA has also been asked to provide the details of CNICs issued to the persons who got Pakistan’s nationality and the process adopted for this purpose in next meeting, he added.

FTO rejects cross review petitions by I&I, Master Tiles

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has rejected cross review petitions filed by Director GeneralIntelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, Federal Board ofRevenue (FBR) and Ms Master Tiles and Ceramic Industries (Complainant).

The review petitions were filed on January 21, 2016 against
the FTO decisions dated December 17, 2015, according to the detailed decision of FTO.

Rejecting the cross review petitions, FTO said that it has not
been established by either side (the complainant or the Department) that there was any readily discernible mistake floating on the surface of the order.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): Ambassador of Ukraine in Pakistan Volodymyr LAKOMOV on Wednesday said that the most important lesson learnt from the Chornobyl accident was to bring about lasting improvements in nuclear and radiation safety globally.

He said in a statement issued in remembrance of 30th
anniversary of the Chornobyl Nuclear power plant accident in Ukraine on April 26, 1986.

The ambassador said this year on April 26, Ukraine and the whole world honoured the memory of the liquidators and victims of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster in connection with the anniversary of the tragedy and government of Ukraine has organized a number of high-level events.
