PM to launch work on Sukkur-Multan Motorway on Friday

Prime Minister to break ground for DI Khan-Hakla Motorway on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
would perform the ground breaking of Sukkur-Multan Motorway in Sukkur on Friday.
According to a PM House statement, the project was part of the
China Pakistan Economic Corridor that was being executed on the
directive of the Prime Minister to link Karachi with Peshawar through a network of motorways.
The stretch of Sukkur-Multan Motorway would be 393 kilometer
that would be a project of national importance.

Pak Finance Minister elected as Vice Chairman of ADB Board of Governors

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Asian Development Bank’s Board of Governors unanimously elected the Finance Minister of Pakistan as the Vice Chairman of the ADB Board of Governors for the Golden Jubilee Year 2016-17.
A statement received here on Thursday said that the ADB in its annual
meeting held from May 2-5, 2016 in Frankfurt Germany, elected Governor for Japan as the Chairman being the host country for the next annual meeting.

Nearly a quarter of the world’s school-age children live in crisis-hit countries| UNICEF

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 5 (APP): Almost one quarter of the world’s
school-age children 462 million live in countries affected by humanitarian emergencies, a new report by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and partners has revealed.
The report, entitled ‘Education Cannot Wait Proposal’, found that
nearly one in six or 75 million children from pre-primary to upper-secondary age (3 to 18 years old) living in nations affected by crises is classed as being in desperate need of educational support. However, on average, only 2 per cent of global humanitarian appeals are dedicated to education, UNICEF said in a press release.

Global Chief of Education, said. “Going to school keeps children safe from abuses like trafficking and recruitment into armed groups and is a vital investment in children” futures and in the future of their communities.

LAHORE, May 5 (APP): Renowned author Sarfraz Shah
inaugurated PU’s historic three-day book fair at the corridors
of Institute of Education and Research (IER) here on Thursday.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Principal PU Law College Dr Shazia Naureen Quresi, Resident Officer-I Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad, Resident Officer-II Malik Muhammad Zaheer, Director IER Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter and journalists including Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori, Irshad Ahmad Arif, Salman Ghani, Taufiq Butt, Dr
Ajmal Niazi, Najam Wali Khan, Sajjad Mir, Hafeez Ullah Niazi, Sofia Baidar, Mian Habib and people from all walks of life were also present.
After inaugurating the book fair, Sarfaraz Shah visited various stalls and lauded the efforts of PU administration for providing books on discounted rates.

Two upsets recorded in QF of international squash

LAHORE, May 5 (APP): Two major upsets were recorded in the quarter
finals of the 4th international men’s squash championship when high-flying Israr Ahmed stunned top seed Farhan Zaman and determined Amaad Fareed showed exit to Tayyab Aslam to breeze into the semi finals here on Thursday at the Punjab Squash Complex.
In the first quarterfinal of day, Israr Ahmed prevailed over fancied
Farhan Zaman 12/14, 11/13, 11/3, 11/3, 11/6 in a marathon 59-minute encounter, emerging victorious with greater anticipation and zest.
Farhan started the match well and but Israr showed his class as both
fought for each and every point. Both were tied at 12-12 and then Farhan utilized all his skills to win the first game 14-12. The second game was also contested very closely as both were once again tied at 11-11 and it was Farhan whose experienced helped him win the game 13-11.

PML-N government dedicatedly working for welfare of masses: PM

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif  on Thursday said the government of Pakistan Muslim League-N was dedicatedly making efforts for the welfare of people and providing them basic amenities of life.

The Prime Minister stated this during separate meetings with
Pakistan Muslim League’s members of National Assembly including Nasir Iqbal Bosal (NA-109), Najaf Abbas Sial (NA-91) and Malik Shakir Bashir Awan (NA-70) here at the PM Office.

The Prime Minister discussed with the MNAs progress on
development work in their constituencies.

Political cohesion, imperative for inclusive development under CPEC: Ahsan

PESHAWAR May 5 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning,
Development and National Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal Thursday stressed
for political cohesion and national unity for sustained economic
development under $ 46billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor
Project (CPEC), the first phase of which would be completed by 2030.
He was addressing a seminar on ‘CPEC- myth and reality’ jointly organized by Ministry of Planning, Development and National Reforms Islamabad and Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) here at Roos Kepal Hall of the College.
The Minister said CPEC was a lifeline project for Pakistan that could steer the country on path of rapid economic growth and sustained development.

PCB-Pepsi cricket stars tournament

LAHORE, May 5 (APP): PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars U-16 two day tournament will be played from May 7 simultaneously at Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan and Gujranwala.
“Altogether 16 regional teams will take part in the tournament and
the format of the matches is of two days duration “, said a spokesman
of Pakistan Cricket Board here on Thursday.

He said the final match will be of 3 days to be played under PCB rules and regulation according to domestic playing conditions.

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Over 400 athletes and officials related to the
game of Taekwondo will be heading towards Karachi from across the country on Friday to participate in the National Taekwondo Championship 2016, which will begin with an impressive ceremony on Saturday.
President Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) Col. (Retd) Wasim Ahmed stated on Thursday that Council General of Korean Consulate, Karachi will be the chief guest of the opening ceremony.
The joyous celebrations of event will feature athletes from Punjab,
KPK, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, FATA, Islamabad, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Railway, Police, Wapda and Higher Education Commission.

PRU to hold rugby event in Multan

LAHORE, May 5 (APP): Inaugural PRU Rugby 7s championship will be played from May 7 at Multan with countrys’ top notch junior rugby players taking part.
“In all seven teams from Punjab will exhibit their talent in the two
day activity which is the first U16 tournament being organised in Southern Punjab,” said , President, Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) , Fawzi Khawaja told APP here on Thursday.
He said the competition is a part of PRU development programme to expand the span of its activities in Southern Punjab to motivate the youth to take up rugby as a sport.
