Govt to talk with opposition on Panama Papers: Zubair

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): Minister of State for Privatization and
Chairman Privatization Commission Muhammad Zubair has said that the government is ready to talk with the opposition on Panama Papers to
evolve a consensus on the matter.

The Prime Minister, he said, had stated that if the Supreme Court
directed to change the Terms of Reference (ToRs) for the judicial
commission the government would make the same.

Talking to a news channel, the minister said on the demand of the
opposition, the Prime Minister had formed the judicial commission
headed by the the Chief Justice of Pakistan to carry out investigation
into the Panama Papers.

UN chief slams deadly terrorist attacks in Istanbul

UNITED NATIONS, May 14 (APP): UN Secretary General Ban
Ki moon is concerned about the targeted violence in Bangladesh
against journalists, bloggers, and individuals and calls for steps to put an end to the killings and harassment, his spokesman has said.

“We would like to see the (Bangladesh) Government create an
atmosphere in which journalists can operate freely,” Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in response to a question about the “lawlessness” in the South Asian country at the regular noon briefing on Friday.

Last week, the spokesman said the UN chief also voiced his
concern over the execution of opposition Jamaat e Islami leader
Motiur Rahman Nizami.

Opposition opted for politics of confrontation: Qadir Baloch

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): Minister for States and Frontier
Regions (SAFRON) Lt General ® Abdul Qadir Baloch has said that
the Opposition had opted for politics of confrontation which may hamper the process of the progress in the country.

Talking to a private news channel, he said the Opposition
was not interested in any investigation, and only wanted to have political gains due to the issue.

To a question he said, PTI had been making different
demands every now and then as its chairman has recently demanded the government to involve National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate Panama Leaks issue.

CASA project to help meet energy shortage: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): Minister for Defence, Water and Power
Khawaja Muhammad Asif Saturday said the CASA 1000 power project would help meet the energy shortage in the country.

The CASA project would provide cheap electricity to Pakistan and
meet its growing energy demand, he said while talking to a news
channel.

The minister said the the historic project had been inagurated
through which Tajikistan would supply 1,000 MW electricity to Pakistan
via Afghanistan.

PPP distributes fake BISP cards during PK-8 by-election: Ameer Muqam

PESHAWAR, May 14 (APP): Advisor to the Prime Minister Eng. Ameer Muqam Saturday rejected allegations of Pakistan Peaples Party (PPP) regarding rigging in by-election PK-8 are baseless and said that the PPP distributed fake cards of Benazir Income Support Program among voters to win loyalties.
He said this while addressing a press conference at his residence Sangoota Swat, Ameer Muqam said that opposition should realize that PML-N is still a favorite party of the masses and its victory in PK-8 reflects the trust of people in leadership of Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
He said that the election was held under the supervision of Pak Army and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a free and transparent environment.

Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday telephoned Ameer Jamaat
Islami (JI) Siraj-ul-Haq.

During the conversation, they discussed the issue of executions of JI leaders by the Bangladeshi government for showing loyalty to Pakistan 45 years ago, said a press release issued here.

Both the leaders agreed to devise a joint strategy regarding the National Assembly resolution and taking other political parties

CPEC to usher in new era of development: Khurram Dastgir

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that development projects being carried out under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would usher in an era of development in the entire region.

He said work on many mega projects including Gwadar port and CPEC was continuing at a cost of billions of rupees, Radio Pakistan reported Saturday.

Uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas are being provided to
industries for strengthening national economy, he added.

India undermining strategic stability: Experts

conventional and nuclear build-up is undermining South Asia’s
strategic stability and could set off an arms race in the region.

They expressed their views at a round-table discussion titled `Growing Challenges to Strategic Stability in South Asia,’ said a press release on Saturday.

Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS) hosted the
discussion for examining strategic stability in South Asia in the
context of developments in India and Pakistan, existing nuclear
doctrines, conventional deterrence, missile and space programmes and
regional security environment.

Pak-KSA Parliamentary Friendship Group chalks out future working plan

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): The first meeting of Parliamentary
Friendship Group, Pakistan-Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) was held on
Saturday to chalk out future working plan for the group.

The meeting was presided over by Senator Sehar Kamran, who
emphasized on establishing deeper people-to-people contacts so that
better understanding could be developed between the two societies,
said a press release.

The two countries already enjoyed special relations that were not
only brotherly but time-tested, she added.
