PAF T20 Cricket C’ships: Bahawalpur, AJK register easy wins

ISLAMABAD, Jan 08 (APP): Bahawalpur pulled off a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over Abbottabad in PAF T20 Cricket Championships Trophy at PAF Cricket Ground E-9 Islamabad on Monday.

Batting first, Abbottabad scored 184 runs, courtesy to Naeemullah, who scored 84 runs.
In reply, Bahawalpur chased the target in just 9.4 overs without any loss with opening pair Moin and Rashid scoring unbeaten 97 and 75 runs, respectively.  Moin was named man-of-the-match for his superb innings.

In the second match, Islamabad won the toss and opted to bowl first against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). AJK scored 251 for the loss of three wickets. Nisar scored 112 not out and Kamran Akhtar scored 73 runs for them.

In reply, Islamabad could score 210 runs for the loss of three wickets, conceding defeat by 41 runs. Matiullah was the top scorer with 70 runs.
Nisar was awarded man-of-the-match for his brilliant century.

On Tuesday, AJK will take on Abbottabad, while Bahawalpur will face Islamabad.

Asif Zardari condemns terrorist incident in Bajaur

KARACHI, Jan 08 (APP): Former President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday vehemently condemned a terrorist incident in Bajaur. He said that volunteers in the field for the eradication of polio are being targeted.
While expressing his grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of the police officers on duty, he said that they were the brave policemen of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Asif Zardari said that the nation was proud of them. He also expressed his sympathy and offered condolence to the bereaved families of the martyred policemen and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Equipping youth with IT is need of hour: VC AIOU

ISLAMABAD, Jan 08 (APP): Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood on Monday said that there is a dire need to equip young people with information technology to achieve speedy progress at domestic and international level.
If the entire system of the university had not been digitized in time, it would not be possible to carry on educational activities during the COVID-19 period, he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed building of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Dr. Nasir Mahmood said that no one in Pakistan has such a platform and students have got online facilities because of digitalization, adding that problems are being solved on priority basis by reason of modern technology.
He said that digitalization was the vision and mission of Dr. Zia ul Qayyum. Despite the interruption caused by COVID-19, he said, AIOU continued its educational activities, which is the credit to the former VC. Executive Director, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and former VC AIOU, Prof Dr. Zia ul Qayyum, were also present on the occasion as the chief guests.
Expressing gratitude to the university administration for continuing its efforts for digitalization policy, Dr. Zia said that good initiatives should be carried forward to strengthen institutions. He said that new ICT building is a modern facility, and it should be run by planning.
After digitization, he said it is imperative to pay special attention to the quality of education and course development, particularly in standardizing the texts of undergraduate, BS, postgraduate diploma programs, and associate programs. Registrar AIOU, Raja Umar Younis, deans, and principal officers also participated in the ceremony.

PESCO notifies power suspension on different KP feeders

PESHAWAR, Jan 08 (APP): Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) on Monday notified that due to maintenance work power supply will remain suspended from RMT Grid Station on 9th and 11th January from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of Professor Model Town, Sheikh Yaseen and Regi feeders will face inconvenience.
It further informed that power supply will remain suspended from Peshawar Cantt Grid Station on 9th and 11th January from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of Tehkal, Islamia College, KTH, Commercial, Jahangir Abad, University Town, NCB, Air Port, PAF Base, Saddar Road, Mall Road, MES 1,2, Old MES, Babu Garhi, Marble Industry, SAA, Palosi 1, Behari Colony, Tehkal Payan feeders will face inconvenience.
Likewise, it said that power supply will remain suspended from Pesco Colony Grid Station on 9th and 11th January from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of Bank of Khyber, Scarp 1, ICF, Darmangi, Warsak Road and Jail feeders will face inconvenience.
The power Supply will remain suspended from Kholian Bala-Haripur Transmission Line on 9th January from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of 66 KV Haripur, Havelian and Kot 2 grid connected feeders will face inconvenience. The power supply will also remain suspended from Mansehra – Oghi Transmission Line on 10th January from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. resultantly consumers of 132 KV Oghi, Battal, Jabri Power House grid connected feeders will face inconvenience.
The power supply will remain suspended from Abbottabad Grid Station on 9th and 10th January from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. resultantly consumers of Oghi and Battal grid connected feeders will face inconvenience.
The power supply, it said will also suspended from Abbottabad – Nathia Gali Transmission Line on 9th and 10th January from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. resultantly consumers of 132 KV Nathia Gali grid connected feeders will face inconvenience.
