PFA discards 1,900-litre adulterated milk

LAHORE, Jan 10 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) discarded 1,900 litres of adulterated and substandard milk during the ongoing operation against tainted milk in the provincial metropolis.
On the directions of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, dairy safety teams inspected several milk carrier vehicles, dairy units and milk shops to ensure provision of pure and fresh milk to consumers.
The PFA DG said teams placed screening pickets at three different points of Lahore including Babu Sabu, Saggiyan Bridge and Ravi Toll Plaza on Wednesday. He said the purpose of the crackdown was to control the wicked practice of milk adulteration in Punjab and ensure implementation of Punjab Pure Food Regulations.
He said that the authority inspected more than 50 milk carrier vehicles, loaded with over 41,000-litre milk. He said teams took action against milk suppliers and discarded 47.5 maunds of milk over results found not up to the mark during the screening test.
The teams found contamination of polluted water, a low level of fats and a lack of nutritional value in the milk, he added.
Muhammad Asim said indiscriminate operation would continue till elimination of the milk-adulteration mafia across Punjab. He said that citizens could get milk tested free of cost by paying a visit to the nearest PFA office with 200ml raw milk. He requested citizens to report adulterated milk suppliers on the Punjab Food Authority helpline 1223.

PBF hails Army Chief’s efforts for expediting country’s economic progress

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10 (APP): In a resounding display of approval, Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has expressed satisfaction with the military diplomacy and economic initiatives undertaken by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir as the nation witnesses a positive shift in various sectors.

PBF President, Khawaja Mahboob ur Rehman on Wednesday said that a wave of optimism was sweeping through the country as the caretaker government’s economic policies, coupled with the strategic decisions of the Army Chief, had resulted in tangible improvements in key economic indicators.

He said significant reduction in the value of the dollar, which has seen a commendable drop from 340 to 280 rupees, prompting hopeful expectations of further stabilization.

The caretaker government has taken the best measures for the economy; the price of the dollar has fallen, and we anticipate even more positive changes when the new IMF and Asian Development Bank funds arrive, with hopes of the dollar reaching 250 rupees.”

The impact of these measures is evident in the Pakistan Stock Exchange, where a positive trend has starting emerged, bringing relief to investors.

Additionally, the reduction in petrol prices has garnered praise from the public, further fueling a positive sentiment towards the government’s economic policies.

Furthermore, the decrease in essential commodity prices, such as daily useable items, has not gone unnoticed which needs to be monitored properly by the respective deputy commissioner’s so that masses may benefited.

PBF President further stated the steps the Army Chief is taking are for the betterment of the country, and we hope that in the coming time, there will be improvement,” said Mahboob, echoing the sentiments of many.

The PBF further expressed the pride in the Army Chief’s diplomatic endeavors, emphasizing the positive impact on the country’s economic landscape. Many anticipate further progress and development, underlining their confidence in the ongoing initiatives that aim to bring prosperity to Pakistan.

“The unwavering resolve by Pakistan’s security forces to combat illegal activities and secure the nation’s economic interests, ultimately working towards a more prosperous and stable Pakistan”.

The PBF also apprised of the progress on two critical initiatives, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the Green Punjab programme.

Similarly, the PBF President also underscored the necessity for synergy among all relevant departments to ensure the successful implementation of these landmark initiatives, stressing their potential to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economic growth.

Stipend for artists raised: Amir Mir

LAHORE, Jan 10 (APP):Information and Culture Minister Punjab Amir Mir said on Wednesday that stipend for artists in need had been raised, and the allocation for widows of artists had also been hiked.
Speaking at the 20th meeting of the Artists Support Fund Committee at Alhamra Arts Council, he emphasised the significance of supporting artists’ welfare alongside promoting art, recognising their crucial role in maintaining a healthy society. The Artists Support Fund aims to extend financial aid to deserving artists, with simplified disbursement mechanisms, including Jazz and MobiCash in addition to banks.
The meeting, focusing on reviewing applications for Artists Support Fund and financial aid, concluded with Minister Mir approving a grant of Rs 50 lakh for deserving artists. He directed the Department of Information and Culture Punjab to ensure efficient distribution of allocated funds for artists within this month.
The meeting witnessed the participation of Secretary Information and Culture Daniyal Gillani, Additional Secretary Culture Tariq Basra, Sohail Waraich, Rashid Mehmood, actress Nisho, and other committee members.

SCCI expresses grief over martyrdom in Kerman bombings

PESHAWAR, Jan 10 (APP): President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Fuad Ishaq has expressed grief over martyrdom in the deadly bombing in Iranian city of Kerman.

In a meeting with Consul General of Iran Ali Banafshekhah, the SCCI chief expressed anguish and pain on the terrorism incident in Islamic Republic of Iran which claimed lives of more than 84 people and wounded many more, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Fuad Ishaq said Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa business community and people stand by the brotherly Islam Republic of Iran and its people in this grief.

He also expressed sympathy with bereaved families and prayed to give Allah courage to them to bear this irreparable loss. He also prayed for the departed souls and speedily recovery of injured people of the deadly bombings.

Later, the SCCI chief also wrote his condolence remarks regarding the Kerman bombings in a memorial book in the Iranian Consulate in Peshawar.
