PESHAWAR, Sep 21 (APP):Youm-e-Ashur was observed across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa peacefully with religious solemnity and reverence on Friday with no untoward incident reported from at any part of the province including the recently merged tribal districts.
The provincial government had made stringent security measures and heavy contingents of law enforcement forces were deployed to protect main processions at designated routes, which paid glowing tributes and commemorated the supreme sacrifice of Grand Son of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA) and his companions.
More than 32,000 policemen in addition to other law enforcement agencies were deployed for protection of 460 mourning processions and 2643 gatherings taken out from 266 Imambargahs in KP during Ashura Moharram.
Only in Peshawar and its adjoining areas, around 118 small and major Alm and Zuljinah processions were brought out from 71 imambargahs during Ashura Moharram.
All small and big processions appeared from Imambargahs Akhunabad, Agha Syed Mir Haider Shah, Alamdar-e-Karbala, Syed Mustafa Shah Rizvi, Syed Ali Qami, Qadeemi Patharwala, Bahar Ali Kayani, Puran Wali and Mai Malangri.
Those processions later joined the central procession of Imambargah Agha Syed Alam Shah after marching on different routes with flagellations and chests beating amid tight security measures.
The processions which offered Jumma prayers at Bacha Khan Chowk and after passing on traditional routes converged at Imambargahs where Sham-e-Ghariban’ was held.
Religious scholars highlighted the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and various aspects of Karbla tragedy.
Cellular service remained suspended during processions especially at the most sensitive areas of the province with surveillance conducted by closed-circuit cameras installed on the routes of the processions.
Besides, people had set up stalls at avenues of certain cities distributing food packs, water, milk among the mourners.
In KP, five districts including Peshawar, DI Khan, Hangu, Tank and Kohat had been declared highly sensitive where all central mourning processions were kept monitored through helicopters.
Processions were also brought out amid tight security at Dera Ismail Khan, Nowshera, Haripur, Manshera, Parachinar, Kuram, Orakzai and others districts and the these culminated following passing through specified places.
Quick Response Force (QRF), Elite Force, FC and other law enforcing agencies were assisting police to avert any untoward incident during Ashura Moharram.
The district administrations had, too, arranged water tanks and milk (Sabeels) and other services across the routes of the processions.
Police snipers in high-rise buildings, CCTV cameras and policemen at plainclothes were also deployed at processions’ routes to avert any untoward incident.
Police had set up a command post in Kohati Gate in Peshawar and deployed officers to monitor processions. The Health Department had also setup control room to provide quick treatment facilities in case of any untoward situation.
