ISLAMABAD, Mar 31 (APP):Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Dr Wajiha Qamar, visited the National University of Modern Languages on Tuesday, where she was warmly received by Rector NUML, Major General Shahid Mahmood Kayani HI (M) (Retd), along with Director General, Brig Muhammad Rafiq Khan.
During the visit, a comprehensive meeting was held between the Minister and the Rector, focusing on enhancing the quality of education in Pakistan and equipping academic institutions with modern facilities to foster an effective learning environment.
Both exchanged views on strengthening academic standards, innovation in teaching methodologies, and aligning education with contemporary global demands.
The Minister was given a detailed briefing on NUML’s academic programs, ongoing initiatives, international collaborations, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and institutional structure. Director Academics, Dr Nadeem Talib, presented an overview of the university’s achievements and future roadmap.
Dr Wajiha Qamar appreciated NUML’s pivotal role in promoting linguistic diversity and cultural connectivity, highlighting its contributions toward bridging cultures through language education.
Rector NUML, Major General Shahid Mahmood Kayani, underscored the importance of education diplomacy, emphasizing the need to further strengthen academic collaboration at the international level.
He highlighted NUML’s vision to position Pakistan as an attractive destination for foreign students by expanding scholarship opportunities, enhancing international outreach, and introducing globally competitive academic programs.
He also stressed the significance of integrating language proficiency with professional education to meet emerging market needs and promoting research-driven learning to address global challenges.
During the discussion, the Minister proposed the development of a formal mechanism whereby certified interpreters trained at NUML could provide professional interpretation services to government ministries and other organisations.
The proposal was welcomed and endorsed by the Rector, recognizing it as a valuable initiative to utilize NUML’s linguistic expertise at the national level.
The Minister was also briefed on the tripartite (MoU) between NUML, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), aimed at providing language training in educational institutions across the capital.
Both sides agreed on the importance of expanding the initiative by introducing additional languages to further enhance student’s competencies.
The meeting was attended by senior university officials including DG NUML Brig Muhammad Rafiq Khan, Pro-Rector Research & Strategic Initiatives Dr Safeer Awan, along with Deans and Directors.
