ISLAMABAD, Oct 31 (APP): An Anti-Narcotics Court in Islamabad on Friday acquitted two accused, Nasir Khan and Alam Zeb, in a drug smuggling case registered at the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Police Station, Rawalpindi.
Judge Dr. Abida Sajjad announced the reserved verdict in case number 136/2023, ordering the release of both men after finding insufficient evidence to prove the charges.
During the hearing, defence counsel Advocate Danish Akbar Khan argued that his clients were arrested merely on suspicion and that no video evidence linked them to the alleged narcotics. He added that the prosecution failed to produce any material proof showing the accused in possession of drugs or involved in trafficking activities.
The lawyer further maintained that the accused had no previous criminal record and that the prosecution was required to establish its case beyond doubt, which it could not do.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court reserved its judgment and later announced the acquittal of Nasir Khan and Alam Zeb.
According to the FIR, the accused were allegedly found with 35 kilograms of hashish and 15 kilograms of opium. However, the court ruled that the evidence presented was not enough to establish their guilt under the law.
With this decision, both men were cleared of all charges and ordered to be released from the case.
