LAHORE, Jan 23 (APP):: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that scientific and human intelligence helped in arresting Imran, a rapist and murderer of Zainab.
Addressing a press conference at 180-H Model Town, he said that Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was constituted to probe Zainab case and it made day and night efforts to arrest the real culprit, adding that the real culprit had been arrested in 14 days with the grace of Allah Almighty.
The CM said that Punjab Forensic Lab, intelligence agencies, civil administration, political leadership and media all deserved appreciation.
Shehbaz Sharif said, “The culprit is 24-year-old Imran of Kasur and he is a serial killer”.
He said that 1150 DNA profiling was carried out and this helped in identifying the real culprit, adding that during polygraph test the culprit confessed to all his crimes.
The Chief Minister said that throughout this process he and his team kept on reviewing the situation.
Shehbaz Sharif also lauded NADRA for their support.
He further said the Punjab government was ready to extend all possible support including Punjab Forensic Lab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to arrest the real culprit of Asma who had also gone through such horrible incident in Mardan.
He said that there should be no politics over dead bodies and it was need of the hour to make joint efforts for bringing prosperity and development in the country.
He said first phase of the investigation had been completed with the identification of the suspect, the second one was to bring this “beast” to justice.
“If it is up to me, as a person who can understand pain of Zainab’s father, I want the culprit to be hanged at a chowk,” the Chief Minister said, adding, “If the law allows, the rapist should be hanged at a square to avoid such heinous crimes in future,” he added.
The CM said that if change in law was needed that would have to be made to check sexual abuse of children.
Father of Zainab, Muhammad Ameen, thanked the Chief Minister, Punjab government, Chief of Army Staff, Chief Justice of Pakistan, intelligence agencies and Police for making arrest of his daughter’s culprit possible.
